A simple summer salad you can whip up in no time. By massaging the kale, you can turn anyone in to a kale lover, along with giving them the fresh nutrition of summer veggies all flavored with simple lemon juice!
Have you heard of Target’s new Clorox Green Works line of all natural, plant-based cleaning products? I hadn’t, but I’m glad I do now! Specifically the Green Works Pump ‘N Clean product! As you know, I must be super vigilant about the cleanliness of my kitchen. Counter tops, pots, pans, plates, cutlery. It all needs to be free of cross contamination from allergens and gluten. Living in a house where not everyone is gluten-free, you have to clean up all the time, before you cook, during cooking, and afterwards.
Because I have to do so much cleaning, that happens around food, I want a natural product without harsh chemicals, fumes, or residue. Something that’s safe to use around food, but still gets the job done* (do not use for cleaning up after raw meat/fish). That’s exactly what I get with the new Pump ‘N Clean! As-you-go clean up, safe, and with one pump of the hand! That’s really nice to, since things can get very messy as I’m creating in the kitchen, but now I can simple pump some cleaner on a sponge or rag and whip! So quick, so easy!
Great for quick counter cleaning, knife whips, measuring cups, cutting boards, etc. Another cool thing is that it’s strong enough for cleaning the inside of the microwave and fridge too! Now I can feel extra safe in my kitchen. Not only from cross-contamination, but also safe from nasty chemicals!
The entire Green Works line is the same. Natural, safe, but super effective. All bio-degradable, plant and mineral-based ingredients, never texted on animals, and are packaged sustainably, being acknowledged by the EPS’s Design for the Environment program. I’m not the only one to love Green Works! Check out these other awesome reviews here and see how Green Works can fit in to your healthy lifestyle too! Then pick some up (discount!) in your local Target, in the “green section” of the cleaning aisle!
And now for that recipe! To test out the Pump ‘N Clean, I thought an all veggie salad would be a good natural fit. Washing, chopping, and cleaning with plant-power all around!
I’ve been meaning to actually write down and photograph this recipe since I started my blog! I’ve been making it for years and it has become a family classic. This was actually the dish I used to first introduce my family to kale. Specifically, my mom fell in love with it! But the secret I’ve learned to getting anyone to love kale, is to massage it! You MUST massage raw kale! That’s how you get the bitter/harsh taste away and you get in all the flavors you, in! Plus it releases all the nutrients and makes it softer (easier to chew) too!
Really, the art of making a kale salad (and getting requests from picky family members to make it again and again), is to massage the kale and massage in the flavor, then letting it “marinate” in the fridge before serving it! Besides that (which you need your hands for! But the Pump ‘N Clean will keep things neat and tidy!), you just need to chop up the other veggies and juice a lemon! Bam! You will have the perfect summer side salad in no time!
Summer Kale Salad
- 6 Heaping Cups of Torn Curly Kale
- 1 Large Zucchini (sliced and halved)
- 1 Large Vine Ripe Tomato (chopped)
- 1½ Cups Snow Peas (chopped)
- 2 Scallions (green and white parts, chopped)
- Zest of 1 Small Lemon
- Juice of 1 Small Lemon
- 2 TB Chopped Fresh Parsley
- ½ Tsp Garlic Powder
- ¼ Tsp Onion Powder
- ¼ Tsp Black Pepper
- Prepare all you veggies and set aside. Then in a very large bowl add the kale, lemon zest and juice, garlic, onion, and pepper. Massage that baby till those flavors are in the kale and the kale turns a darker color. You'll know when it's good!
- Now add in all the other veggies, give everything another toss until everything is mingled. The refrigerate overnight or at least 4 hours until serving!
This is one of those salads that keeps on giving too! You think you ate a ton of it, but there is still more in the container! I guess it really makes it perfect for those summer parties and cook-outs! All hail the kale! I assure you, even non-kale lovers will love this super healthy salad! You’ll love it too (and it’s quick natural clean up and mess-free prep if you get yourself some Green Works Pump ‘N Clean!)
So tell me:
+ Do you buy natural cleaning products? Have you ever made your own cleaning products?
+ Are you a kale lover or kale hater? Kale rocks, and it has become my go-to dish to bring to parties of all kinds! Even in the winter with this version!
