Everyone does these, "insert age" lessons or things learned posts around their birthday. So even though, kinda "cheesy" and commonplace in my mind, I still always enjoy reading them. As I'll be turning 19 this coming Saturday, I sat down over the weekend and wrote out 19 little pieces of life wisdom I feel to be true. There's a lot of wisdoms I could give you, even at the ripe young age of almost-19. Some of us learn a lot and very quickly due to how we grew-up. Some of us learn a bit later in life. Nonetheless, we will always be learning and evolving and the more we know at a young age, the more we can learn down the road. As I mention in #14, life = change. You will always be changing because of the learning, experiences, and growing that takes place. With each year you add on to your life, always take a moment to reflect back on those changes and realize just how crazy, difficult, and beautiful life is and can be.
19 Wisdoms Of Life
1. Every day should be treated as a gift.
2. The body was meant to move. The lungs were meant to breath. Move and breath.
3. Family. They're the most important ones, so don't let them go.
4. A hug is one of the greatest gifts.
5. Social media can destroy you and your time.
6. Don't let anyone make you feel inferior about yourself, goals, or dreams.
7. Make your own choices, follow your own intuition.
8. Do something you love every day.
9. There is no such things as failure if you don't want there to be. And don't let fear get in the way because of it.
10. If you don't like someone, let them go. Don't "secretly" check up on them, "delete" them.
11. Cook real whole foods, with your own flare, every day, to nourish the soul, mind, body, and relish in nature's beauty.
12. Before you say "no", "never", or give-up, you MUST try.
13. It's okay to cry, cry a lot and be vulnerable. The one's who love you will understand.
14. Life = Change. You can change your mind, your life, your hobbies, your likes/dislikes. Even if you don't, life will just do it for you (without your approval).
15. You can't reverse time. You can't take back time. Don't waste it.
16. If you believe something about yourself, it's true. Use that power wisely, don't abuse it (or neglect it).
17. Everything comes to an end. Nothing lasts forever and things do work themselves out. Maybe not as you thought, but nothing will stay in perpetual "unknown".
18. Don't hide. It's okay to be alone, it doesn't mean your lonely, but don't hide. You need someone real to love, to touch, to confide in.
19. You are a human being. That means you, and only you, have the power to define yourself as confident, strong, beautiful, happy, resilient, determined, motivated, loving, peaceful, creative, and anything else you want to be.
And with that, I only have 4 more days until my last "teen year" begins. It feels rather strange and I do not "feel" 19 years old. Even though I've been a very independent, mature "kid" my whole life, that's just it. I still feel like a "kid". There is no line where adulthood starts and childhood ends. You just begin adopting and adapting to adult things and slowly lose the kid things. I don't think we ever are one or the other. We are always gaining and losing in this journey we call life.

"5. Social media can destroy you and your time."
My fav. I'm still trying to find the balance on this one. I'm not a fan of social media at all, but find it useful in the blogging world.
This is a beautiful and inspired post. You are wise beyond your years and I am constantly forgetting that you are still in your teens because you most definitely have an old soul.
Embrace who you are and live life to the fullest, always.
Happy Birthday =)
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Useful (mandatory), but I hate it.
Thank you, thank you Kimmy!

I really like the one about the body being meant to move. I think we all forget this. It's so easy to just come home from work and sit down to watch a movie. When we really should be out seeing what life has to offer us.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Right! Nothing will ever happen if you sit "literally" idly by!

Very wise for your age young lady. Happy Birthday and I hope you totally enjoy your weekend! I would like to add a bit of wisdom that I share to my students all the time. Never let someone's opinion define who you are. Just be you! Found you over on playpartypin.com Weekend re-Treat link party.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Thank you!
That's write, like I said, don't let anyone make you feel inferior about anything!
Trish @ tagsthoughts.com
Ugh! I am way too attached to my phone. I purposely leave it at home sometimes just to feel that 'freedom'.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
It's just not good!
Lisa @ Healthy Nibbles & Bits
Can I just say a BIG amen to #5? I check my phone even when I'm waiting on a street corner! It sickens me, but I keep doing it!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
I hate it. I will never say I like social media. I don't. But as a blogger, it's my job...which sucks.
Steph
So much wisdom from such a young lady - thanks for sharing!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Thanks Steph!
Kristy @ Southern In Law
You, my dear, are so wise for your age! I have to agree with every single one of these!
I think the biggest thing I always need to remember is that it's okay to take a break! I'm someone who's always go go go - but sometimes that leaves me finding myself in a funk, totally wasted and run down and that's not a healthy way to be!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Totally! It's hard to really fully take those breaks, but we do need them. There is no way we can always be going and be on our best game if we don't rest!
Megan @ Skinny Fitalicious
You are so much wiser than your age. You always amaze me and are doing incredible things!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Thank you so much Megan! That means a lot!
Linda @ Veganosity
I'm fifty-one and I still feel like a kid. That in itself is a gift if you ask me. Never lose your child like qualities Rebecca. 🙂
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
XOXO you either Linda!
Sue
Well I'm very impressed. At 19 you certainly are very wise and have reminded us of things we all have but maybe take for granted. Thanks for sharing with us at #Wednesday'sWisdom
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Thank you Sue 🙂
genevieve @ gratitude & greens
Loved this post! And number 6 really reminded me of the Princess Diaries. A piece of life wisdom... Take everything in stride and just enjoy the present. Not overanalyzing the future helps me better enjoy the present 🙂
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
That is one of my favorite movies 😉 Haha!
I struggle with embracing the present, but yes, so so so important!
Jeanette | Jeanette's Healthy Living
Such a thoughtful and thought provoking post Rebecca. Happy early birthday!

Jessica @ Moxie and Mischief
I love this! I wasn't nearly as insightful at the age of 19.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Thanks Jessica!
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table
I wish I'd been so wise at your age! (God, that makes me sounds old...)
I really like #16. Belief is a powerful thing!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Haha 😉
It so is! We just have to use that power correctly!
JcCee
This is a great list, Rebecca! Number 16 is powerful. I especially love what you said about there not being a line between stages of life. I see myself as a kid sometimes because I find myself in learning mode a lot. There is always something to learn.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Always! We will never ever stop learning!
Harriet Emily
What a beautiful post Rebecca! Such wise words - I found myself in the same situation before my 19th too, thinking about life and all it has to offer! I love your 19 choices, they're all so true. My main wisdom is similar to your 6th: to always follow your dream! Whatever it is, if you can think it, you can make it happen! It doesn't matter whether anyone else thinks it's possible - only what you think! There's nothing quite like the exhilarating feeling of taking a risk, and nothing compares to the feeling of when it succeeds. So always follow your dream! 🙂
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
True! When things do end up happening for you, through hard work and crushing fears, taking risks, the feeling is extraordinary!

i love the bit about life and change. oh gosh, so true! thanks for these!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
It's the biggest truth there is!
Jessica @ Nutritioulicious
So much truth and wisdom in this list. As others have already said, you are very smart and know so much for your age. I still feel like a kid sometimes even though I have my own kids! I guess one of these days that will change! Happy almost birthday!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
I don't think it will, and that's a good thing!
Thank you so much Jessica! XOXO
Krysten
I LOVE 12!!! Always try! Happy Birthday doll!

Kristen
Awesome post! You are so much smarter than I was when I was 19 🙂 Happy birthday! Enjoy that last teen year!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Haha, thank you dear!
Natalie @ Feasting on Fruit
Very beautiful! My word/wisdom to live by is honesty. Be honest with your actions, honest with your words, honest with yourself, and honest with others. It just makes everything better and easier in the long run 🙂
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
That's spoken truth right there Natalie!
Heather @ FITaspire
Great list of wisdom - and don't let anyone tell you that you're too young. That's mine for you!! 🙂
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Never 😉 XOXO
Lisa Nolan
Great list! I was inspired! So many things to be thankful for! I think I need to make a list, ha! Wonderful idea!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
No so much to be thankful for, but things I've learned to be true!
Chelsey
SO wise for (almost) 19 years old! Wish I knew some of these things when I was first turning 19!!

What a great list! Thanks for the inspiration. You should make this into a printable
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Haha, thank you Lauren!
Michele @ paleorunningmomma
These are all important reminders and still things that are tough no matter how old you are I think. I think the biggest lesson between college and where I am now is that it's okay to let go of expectations and just simply be who you already are. While striving for excellence has its place, it doesn't make you worthy, as I used to believe. The other piece of wisdom is that the older I get the less I feel I know, but the more curious I've become. I'm also much better at admitting I'm wrong now!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Ah yes! That is so perfectly said! I am who I am. I've accepted that and I hope others can too. If they can't then "delete" them as I said 😉
I feel you on that one too. There is so much I want to know MORE about and I'll never know it all.
Lisa @ RunWiki
Something we all should be reminded of daily! I especially need the, "Do not hide" one. I am notorious for hiding, luckily I have friends who deeply understand me and patiently hold my hand from afar during those times. Not sure I could make it without their compassion and perseverance.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Yea! Sometimes we need that loving hand to pull us out and guide us a bit!
Robin Follette
You're a very wise woman already. Great list!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Thanks!
Kelly
Love this, Rebecca! So true. Every one of them. Happy early birthday! Mine is coming up too. I have a similar post up this morning. Cheers to us!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Haha yes! Yay for June birthdays!
dixya @ food, pleasure, and health
these are all beautiful reminders. i have learned to just let things go and not hold grudges.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Letting things go is important to TRY!
