Finish out the year strong and develop habits that will have you crushing your mornings so you can start the day stress-free! Here are 5 ways to crush your mornings!
We are in the home stretch and in just a few weeks we'll be jumping right into a new year! The last few weeks of a year can be some of the most stressful and hectic. Finishing up that fourth quarter and tying up all the year's loose ends can make anyone feel a bit more frazzled than usual. College students are finished up our first semester which means FINALS, wrapping up yearly projects at work, hosting and attending holiday parties and obligations, the list goes on! For me, as long as I stick to my "crush my morning" routine, I know I'll be on a much better road to success during this stressful season. Here are my 5 ways to crush your mornings and set yourself up for ultimate success!
1 - Prep the night before - I hope y'all are already doing this, but get everything, as much as you can, prepped and ready to go the night (or day) before! There is no better feeling than waking up and having everything for the day already laid out and ready to go. It cuts down on decision fatigue to already have my clothes out, food packed, class/work materials already in the backpack, ready for me to put on, grab, and just go!
2 - Get up and workout - A day does not get off to a good start without some sweat to help you crush the day ahead! Get up and move your body! If you have trouble waking up and turning your brain on, you may want to think about becoming a morning exerciser. You may have to wake up earlier than you're used to, but believe me, it's worth it! When you get that workout done first thing, no need to worry about having to do it later in the day when some stressful distraction or situation may need to be handled!
3 - Keep your to-do list with you - I keep a MAD amount of Post-It notes. I write and rewrite my to-do lists all the time. One thing I always make sure I have though is a small square Post-It with the current tasks for the day, blog to-dos, dates and times to remember, etc. While I'm out and about, I know what's on that to-do list and I can add things and make notes during the day. When when I get back home I add, delete, or edit by big long term to-do list that I keep on my desk! Either jot this mini to-do list down the night before or right in the morning (after your workout!) so you can stay on track and not forget a thing during the chaos of the day when you may not have your real planner on the ready!
4 - Wear at least one power piece - I think we can all agree that when we look good, we feel good, and thus, are able to not only crush our morning, but also our day. Now, you don't have to deck your self to the nines everyday, but if you pick one piece that makes you feel "good" and "confident", you are going to have a good day. That can be your favorite scarf, some red lipstick, a special necklace, etc. Just one little thing! It amplifies your confidence to get through the day! My favorite is a splash of my favorite perfume!
5 - Enjoy your breakfast fuel (even on the go!) - Arguably the most important thing is your morning fuel! Breakfast is the most important meal of the day...and so is coffee (or tea)! For those mornings you know you're going to be hustling, prep some over night oats and take your beverage in a Dixie® To Go cup as you head out the door! With a leak-resistant lid & insulated layer you don't have to worry about spills on you power piece or waiting in-line at the coffee shop! No clean up, no worries, just extra time to focus on crushing your day!

Very nice tips!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Great!

Great tips!! I was awful about leaving little Post Its everywhere, but then never remembering to have them with me. I started to force myself to instead use the "notes" app on my phone, now they are organized and always with me!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
As long as you have your phone 😉

Couldn't live without my "to do" lists. The master is in my planner, then I have a smaller one that I take with me when I'm on the go. Nothing makes a day go smoother than seeing things get checked off that list!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Yes! Lists rock!
sahana
Great tips. Thank you for sharin!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Thanks.

I am the worst at mornings! Waking up to prepped coffee and a clean kitchen are critical for me. It seems silly, but waking up to dirty dishes in the sink makes me feel like I'm starting my day one step behind.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
I feel the same way! Everything has to be clean and put away before I go to bed!
Lucy Grace
Thank you for these tips!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Sure!

Hi Rebecca,
Very good tips. Pinned & tweeted!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Thanks!

Great advice... is the Dixie cup reusable? I often struggle to rise from the snuggly confines of my duvet but when breakfast and coffee are beckoning its a no brainer! My power piece is my leopard print coat... always my go to power piece! <3
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
You can just toss it away! That's the point!
Michelle
Have enough time to eat a proper breakfast is my way to start the day. The power piece tip is one I haven't heard before. I shall try that. Thanks for sharing!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Let me know how it works for you!

Always need that liquid fuel!
Chloe
Hi, thanks for sharing some great tips in going to have to try wearing a power piece
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
I hope it works for you!
Gina
These are all really fantastic tips! I never heard or thought of wearing a power piece before. But, I can see how that'd make all the difference. I'm definitely someone who benefits from morning exercise. I just wish my gym opened earlier. That won't stop me though! And having my to do list and prepping the night before helps so much. I even plan out my morning the night before with a list of what I should do in the amount of time I have. It helps a lot!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Workout right at home! As much as you can get done early the better! Planning and having a routine is the key!
Caroline
Great advice thank you! I love the power piece idea and I'm going to give overnight oat a go for sure!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
You'll have a great day when you do!
Barrie Bismark
Great ideas! I love the power piece. Gotta have that!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Yes! It helps!

Oh I really love this list. Especially about wearing a power piece. I never thought about that but it can really do a lot for your mood. Great ideas.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Yes! That one's the secret weapon 😉
Sarah Geringer
Hi, I do all of these things except exercise, which is better for me in the afternoon. I love my planner and write everything in it, sometimes adding bright Post-Its for emphasis. I choose healthy grab-and-go breakfasts like Belvita bars. I delight in my power piece jewelry, which are gifts from loved ones I can treasure throughout the day. Morning prep is key, agreed!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Sounds like you have it down, Sarah!

I am ALLL for prepping the night before or I'd never make it to work on time! 😛 These days, I've been getting up at uh, 6:20 and walking/getting to work by 6:50. 😀 Yay for maximizing sleep? I keep toying with the idea of getting my workout done before I go to work but as of yet, I still haven't managed to get myself to that point yet.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
4am girl, 4 am 😉

Great suggestions! I love them all and would add, take a few minutes to read your Bible and talk to God. It could be as little as a few verses in Proverbs, one of the Psalms or a chapter in the New Testament. Prayer doesn't have to be full of fancy words. Just talk to God about upcoming challenges, thank Him for His blessings, and ask for His help and protection. It can make all the difference!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
That's great Donna!

I was going to say that I needed to have some time with God in the morning. It helps get me in the right mindset to go through the day in. 🙂

Great post. Prep the night before - so so true! Do or die for me. 🙂
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Exactly!
Amelie
These are some great tips! I need to start prepping the night before... That would definitely make my mornings less hectic!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
It is one of the best things you can do to really create a stress-free morning!
Nikki-ann
I'm eally not a morning person, but I do try to prep the night before (sorting out my lunch for work etc).
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
That's a key to success!
Monica
Ahhh love this! Exercise in the mornings is key, but I have a hard time getting up! I set my coffee maker the night before & have a NO TECHNOLOGY rule until I finish my yoga!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Get out of bed and hit the floor doing push ups! Wakes you right up and warms you up!
Kimberly Dsouza
Great tips!
For me its 1 and 5. I just cannot skip these two. And if I do, the consequences aren't very pleasant. 😛
In addition, my days are always so good when I start off with a prayer. 🙂
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
That's great, Kimberly!
Sarah Bell
These are some great tips! Love #4...I always feel so much better about my day when I am dressed in something I love...even if it's something small like a necklace. Thanks for sharing!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Exactly! Just a little touch as a reminder of your greatness!
