What's Valentine's Day without a little raspberry red and bittersweet chocolate chips? A sad one, that's what! I wanted to make sure I gave you all the sweet love-filled treats before the "big day". But this recipe is a little throwback Thursday Wednesday. Why? Well, This granola was made a little over a year ago during winter break of 2015 and I had meant to post it as a Valentine's Day Β treat last year but obviously I dropped the ball on that one. So better late (a year late) than never!

It's never a bad time to post granola anyway, am I right? This one is super simple too, which I know you all love! AND it's obviously gluten-free and vegan, but also sugar, oil, and nut free. Have you noticed people actually naming their recipes "oil-free" or "fat-free" recently? I have and it's killing me! It's like they want the "fat-free" craze to come back with a vengeance. Newsflash, it's not hard to not use oil or fats if you don't want, same with refined sugar. But it's the same thing with "skinny" recipes or "detox" in the title. I know it's January and people are all about #goals, but food is not skinny and food can not detox you. Your liver does that. The only time it's good to mention what your recipe is "free from" is concerning food allergies, and only if that's your food blogging niche.

Let's just vow to name our recipes what they are...please? Okay, it's settled then! No more "skinny", "low-fat" branded titles. Your muffin is not skinny, it's a muffin, it's round and voluptuous!Β Now (rant over), since it's time to show some love and affection to yourself and your significant other, this granola fits all those silly criteria, but you wouldn't know it! This may be one of the most simple and easiest granolas I've made and it's traditionally baked (this was pre-cast iron era).

I think there should be a granola for every holiday. Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, and I guess I should make a green "matcha" granola next for St. Patrick's day! What I'd touted as previously for my Valentine's Day granola was with fabulous Strawberry Mocha flavor! Another "red" and chocolaty type of crunchy goodie. Another reason why granola should be a "thing" for every holiday is the whole "perfect edible gift" thing. I gift granola to everyone since it is so easy and I've never met someone who HATES granola. Even if they think it's not their "thing" at first, when they try some Strength and Sunshine granola, they're all smiles πŸ™‚

Maybe you could tell, but I have a secret desire to start a little side granola business. Although, I don't know how that would work while in college and where does a girl get all those gluten-free oats? But one day, one day! So while I'm munching away on granola and gifting it to loved ones and friends, you can just make your own Strength and Sunshine granolas with my recipes!

  • Author: Rebecca Pytell
  • Cook Time: 20 mins
  • Total Time: 20 mins
  • Category: Breakfast, Snack, Granola
  • Cuisine: American

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 Β½ Cups Gluten-Free Rolled Oats
  • Β½ Cup Gluten-Free Oat Bran
  • 1 Cup Crispy Brown Rice Cereal
  • 1 Cup Freeze-Dried Raspberries
  • ΒΌ Cup Pureed Raspberries (I used frozen. Just defrost and blend)
  • 1 TB Chocolate Stevia Syrup
  • ΒΌ Cup Bittersweet Chocolate Chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325Β°F.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine all ingredients except the chocolate chips. Mix to combine.
  3. On a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a Silpat, evenly spread the granola out.
  4. Bake in the oven for 10 minutes, toss, and bake another 10 minutes until crispy.
  5. Remove from the oven, let cool a bit and then add the chocolate chips, give it a mix and devour!

Now, promise me you won't be one of those "pick the best part out" type of eaters. Don't eat all the chocolate chips and leave all the raspberry oat goodness! I know it's enticing, but then the fun will be gone before you know! You want the whole deal in those handfuls of snacking or spoonfuls of breakfast-munching! So off you go! Bake some granola, put it in a heart shaped chocolate box and give it to your lovie (without any extra fanfare in the title!)

So tell me:

+ Pet peeve? Let me hear it!

+ Who would you gift some Valentine's Day granola to?

Mmmh, granola. Also known as: crack. Confession: I think it's one of the foods that need at least some fat/oil in them. Years and years ago - deep into my ED - I tried a popular blogger's granola recipe that didn't use a single drop of oil or even nut butter. Calling it not that good is being very nice. ..
That being said I still like the sound of your recipe. And oh my do I agree on the labeling issue. While I do add tags like gluten-free or vegan to my recipes I add them in brackets and am turned off by "oil-free", "fat-free" and the likes. We shouldn’t over-label our recipes when what we create in the end is simply good food. That should be convincing enough.

This looks sooo good! And I'm seeing it at the perfect time because I am in experimentation mode with granola! My kids eat it so often so I prefer to make it homemade and I think they will love this recipe! It would probably be amazing with white chocolate chips, too!

You know how I feel about fruit and chocolate and this is making me hungry! I agree that specifying lack of allergens or GF in recipes is important but I am not drawn to a skinny muffin or anything else πŸ™‚ I know it helps the recipes get views but it's also sort of cringy.

Hi Rebecca , I have never made granola before, not because I don't want to, I do, I just never seem to get there. Your recipe is just up my street, the contrast between the raspberries and chocolate is tempting. I'm not sure I'll be able to get chocolate stevia syrup here, could I use honey and proper cocoa instead?

I totally agree with you on calling food what it is. Whenever I read that something or someone is detoxing I find myself shaking my head and telling my whole family that you don't detox, our livers do that for us. I don't want my children growing up not appreciating how brilliant the human body is.

Better late is right! Never seeing this beautiful bowl of snacking deliciousness would've been sad. I love your crazy granola flavors, but the classics like berry and chocolate can't be beat <3 And I would've been that kid who picked out all the chocolate chips hahaha! Maybe mini chips would be a good idea here--harder to find πŸ˜€ And I cracked up at the "round and voluptuous" muffin part! A skinny muffin would just be sad. I need more muffin than that! Pet peeve...hmmm? Well as far as online stuff it's when people leave a comment like "Nice. "Your muffin is not skinny, it’s a muffin, it’s round and voluptuous! " You're so funny! πŸ™‚ And that's so true.

This is my kind of granola recipe. Chocolate and raspberries together. Mmmmm......

I don't mind when people say that a recipe is oil-free, dairy-free, gluten-free.... That just helps the readers who are on restricted diets find what they're looking for. What drives me crazy is when bloggers claim that something is healthy when it's loaded with sugar. Like recipes that are "sugar free or low in sugar" but they use protein powders that are loaded in sugar in said recipe. Banging head on desk.

Really I just hate all extra labels. Just stop. Because even if you use say, cow milk, you can easily swap that with non-dairy, no questions asked. So anything like that...I get so angry! Just name the recipe and be done. You don't see restaurants titling their recipe fat-free "blah blah". If you really want, just add that in the description. Not the name πŸ˜›

This recipe was the LAST one I made back in NJ last summer! It is one of the best pasta salads to ever appear on Strength and sunshine! Using @eatbanza Cavatappi, crisp romaine, grape tomatoes, my homemade coconut bacon, homemade aquafaba mayo, seasoned with a pinch of salt and pepper! It's SO easy and quick! You are going to fall in love! Ditch the gluten, meat, and eggs in this BLT salad and still get all the delicious flavors and heartiness you love! πŸ€€πŸ™ŒβœŒοΈ

Perfect tostones require the unripe green plantains (got mine from @theboysfarmersmarket), they're super cheap (like 20-30Β’), peel, slice, soak them in some water, lime juice, and salt, use your @gowiseusa air fryer to give them the first "fry", then get out your frustrations by smashing them into flat discs with a tostonera or a heavy mug, toss them back in the air fryer to finish getting golden and crispy! Serve with an extra pinch of flaky salt and salsa dips of choice! πŸ‘Œ
