These Gluten-Free Chocolate-Covered Mini Doughnuts are baked and dipped in rich, dairy-free dark chocolate! They're vegan, allergy-free, so quick and easy to make! Only 7 ingredients needed for this fun, kid-friendly donut dessert and nostalgic copycat recipe of Hostess chocolate frosted Donettes!
Chocolate-covered anything is delicious, right? Chocolate-covered mini doughnuts are a no-brainer then! A perfect poppable gluten-free chocolate treat and they are just so easy to make! You literally only need 7 ingredients, including the chocolate! That and of course you'll need a mini donut pan. They only need to bake for about 6 minutes so the only waiting time you'll need to endure is letting the chocolate dry!
7 Simple Ingredients
You'll be able to make 2 dozen, 24, mini doughnuts with this recipe so feel free to scale as needed!
- Gluten-Free All-Purpose Flour
- Baking Powder
- Applesauce
- Vanilla Extract
- Granulated Sweetener
- Unsweetened Non-Dairy Milk
- Allergy-Free Chocolate Chips (You can use dark or semi-sweet!)
Tips for Making your Mini Doughnuts
- I baked two separate batches of doughnuts as my Wilton Mini Donut pan had 12 cavities. Make sure you use a non-stick pan and grease it well with!
- Pop the baked doughnuts out as soon as possible from the pan and allow them to cool completely on a wire rack before dipping them in the melted chocolate.
- Melt more chocolate then you think you'll need! I used 2 bags of dark chocolate chips.
- Melt the chocolate chips in a large bowl in the microwave using increments of 30 seconds and stirring every time so it doesn't burn and harden.
- You can use two forks to dip the baked mini doughnuts in the chocolate, allowing the excess to drip off before letting them dry COMPLETELY on some wax paper.
Copycat Hostess Chocolate Frosted Donettes
You know we had to make an allergen-free version of the classic store-bought treat! While I still think the powdered mini donuts are best, chocolate can do no wrong either! These will definitely bring back some nostalgic childhood lunchtime vibes, although these remind me of a quick gas station or convenience store sweet treat you'd pick up on a road trip! I'm not sure why they were called "chocolate frosted" though. The mini donettes were completely covered in thick hard chocolate...not frosted!

These look so delicious! When I realized I was gluten intolerant, I was on a major struggle bus when it came to desserts because I have a massive sweet tooth! While I've found most recipes for what I love, donuts have been difficult. They either don't turn out right or have five million ingredients.
This recipe looks so good and easy to do! I cannot wait to try these out! Thanks for the recipe 🙂

That's not true at all. Plus, it would have nothing to do with the flour, but the binders and how they were made (baked, fried, etc.).

Can you make them with normal self raising flour? We are dairy free but can eat gluten. They look amazing!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
I'd assume you can use typical all-purpose flour.
