Get your chocolate and peanut butter fix with these healthy, gluten-free, vegan, and grain-free Chocolate Peanut Butter Power Balls! A yummy protein-packed snack recipe for all ages and bite sizes!
It's time for a celebration! A CEREAL celebration! Today, March 5th, is National Cereal Day! If you're ready this in the morning (like 6:30am) I'm currently fulfilling the cereal day prophecy and eating a massive bowl as we "speak"! You KNOW I simply adore my cereal and I've never let Celiac Disease get in the way. I may not be able to eat all my old favorites, but there are some amazing specialty cereals out there I don't think I ever would have discovered had I not been diagnosed. There is a cold cereal option for everyone! While you know I'm also the granola queen, cereal is something so different in my eyes.
Now what the heck does cereal have to do with bites? Weren't you expecting a granola/cereal recipe? Well I almost posted some granola, but like I said above, granola and cereal are like paternal twins. Similar, but so different. These bites, or "balls", contain cereal, but not just any cereal! BEAN cereal! Besides knowing that I love cereal and granola, you also know that I love my beans! So combining them seems like a pretty obvious way for me to fall in love. You could say I'm in "love" with Love Grown Foods! The first cereal of theirs I ever tried was the original Power O's, then the chocolate Power O's (used here!), and then the chocolate Mighty Flakes! (Side note: when I make my porridge bowls for breakfast I do half Love Grown Super Oats half Quinoa Flakes!) The commonality between all the Love Grown cereals though, is BEANS! If you want protein for breakfast, skip the nasty eggs, and eat some beans!
Any what goes better than a cereal made with navy beans, lentils, and chickpeas? More legumes! And by that I mean peanuts! We all love this **cough, cough** "bean" butter and we also all love chocolate! (Right!?) So let's combine them all and make the ultimate protein-packed beanful chocolate balls! I know, you're drooling already 😉
But let's take a step back and start a trip down memory lane. Just the other day, I was speaking to my mom about the cereals we missed. For her, it was Life cereal. I too, was very fond of that cereal. It was one of the cereals my grandparents always had. When we would visit, we would never take the journey back home until my brother and I both have a plastic cup full of either dry Life cereal or Cheerios. Childhood nostalgia at it's best!
The one(s) I really miss though, I have a few. Frosted Flakes, the Original Honey Bunches of Oats, Frosted Mini Wheats (bahahaha! GLUTEN!), and finally, my number one, Cap'n Crunch! O Cereal Gods, if you ever make that one safe and gluten-free, I will buy every box and eat cereal for all my meals. I'm talking the original Crunch Berry one. I can still remember that taste! Perhaps the biggest nutrition bomb there is, but I don't care at all! If you look at the ingredients, the first 4 are corn flour, sugar, oat flour, and brown sugar (meaning sugar is actually #1), and then a bunch of chemicals. But if I were able to eat that even just one more time, I would go ALL in! #BestCerealEver!
It was totally one of those crunchy cereals that cut up the roof of your mouth too! (That's the sign of a quality crunchy, not soggy, cereal!) I have vivid memories of eating a huge bowl of that cereal on the couch, watching Nickelodeon before I would have to go to school. Haha, I have some of the best cereal memories! I've always been a cereal fiend though. There was a great span of years where the only breakfast I ate, everyday, was cereal. I would go through boxes and boxes! Same as if you don't like chocolate chip cookies, if you don't like cereal...there must be a problem there (I'm guessing it was from a deprived childhood!).

Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Exactly!
kimmythevegan
This sounds better than cereal!!! You and your mom are so cute 😉
I remember honeynut cheerios was one of my favourites. But I remember my dad once bought us lucky charms when my mom was away for the weekend and we thought we had died and gone to heaven. Haha. I bet I would find it pretty gross now.
This sounds great!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Total sugar overload! Haha! But that's what childhood is for 😉

These little power balls look yummy . . . I'm trying to figure out where to buy the natural products that are so much better for my family, so I guess I'll need to do a bit more research and track that stuff down.

What a creative recipe! I am particularly interested in the inclusion of Chocolate Power O's made with navy beans, lentils, garbanzo beans and brown rice in this delicious recipe for chocolate peanut butter power balls. I have to try them.

Oh yum, these do sound heavenly! But then again, anything with chocolate and peanut butter is a win in my book 🙂 I haven't had store bought cereal in so long!! I used to be the biggest cereal fan as a kid though - I would seriously go through boxes of the stuff.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
I think it's WAY over due for some cereal buying then!
Amberjane
I need to try these Rebecca - thank you!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Go for it!
Lucie
Oh wow! That sounds like my future favorite cereal <3 Any tips regarding "how not to eat the whole box in one sitting"? I might have issues in that area 😀 And those PB & chocolate balls are spot on, all my favorite flavors!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
If you find a solution to that one..I'd need the tips too!
Kim~madeinaday
Anything chocolate & peanut butter is good with me! Sharing on FB!
Kim
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine

I knew as soon as I saw this thumbnail that I had to investigate further. The recipe sounds SO GOOD! Anything chocolate and I'm there. Plus peanut? Yes please! Maybe if I close my eyes and focus really hard they'll appear on my desk.....or I could just go to the store and get cooking. Haha!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Hahaha! Good thing they are minimal ingredients and you can whip them up in a flash! 😉 xo
Nikki Frank-Hamilton
Rebecca, I was an oddball for cereal. My favorites were Life, regular and cinnamon, and Grapenuts. I know, odd. I would add some sugar to the Grapenuts and a bit of milk, then microwave for a minute, it would be warm and comforting. I liked it without warming too, but man, by the time the bowl was gone my jaws hurt from chewing! LOL
I love power balls, and chocolate and peanut butter is my favorite combo! This is a winner for me!!!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
No shame! ALL cereal was good!!!
Gin
I'll take these peanut butter power balls over a bowl of Captain Crunch ANY day! 🙂
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Hahaha, I don't know if I'D go that far 😉
Sam @ PancakeWarriors
I absolutely love how quick and simple this recipe is. i'm all about the chocolate peanut butter mixture - yum!!!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Only the most classic combo!
Sophia @Veggies dont bite
We totally do the Love Grown Foods chocolatey Oh's and the strawberry too! My hubby likes the flakes but I am not a flake girl. WAY to soggy in the end for me. I'm super anal about my cereal and it's sogginess. In fact I pour the milk in my bowl, then slowly add the cereal as I eat it. I know weird, but that way the crunch is epic every time! Sounds like a delish power ball, to me ALL things chocolate and peanut butter are the BOMB!!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
I need to try the strawberry! And mix them with the chocolate...chocolate covered strawberry!!
Soggy cereal makes me cry 🙁 But I eat my bowls so fast, I usually don't have a problem with any cereal! Haha!
Alyssa
Growing up I remember eating a lot of honey nut Cheerios...Life too! I definitely remember reading nutritional labels with my mom in the cereal aisle and comparing the grams of sugar in each serving. Then years later I was on a huge cereal kick and would eat a bowl (no milk) for dessert at night. Just enough sweetness without being tooooo sweet. These chocolate PB power balls are looking like they will be my new favorite snack. 🙂 I have to check out Power O's!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Cereal as dessert is always good! Breakfast, snack, or dessert!!!
And you will love Power O's!!! Nothing to feel bad about!
Healing Tomato
There are just so many things to like about this recipe. The chocolate is the main reason, lol. Peanut butter gives the protein needed and the power O's are one of my fav. Great recipe, Rebecca
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Yes! Thank you my friend!! Chocolate love always!
Laura
Peanut butter and chocolate! How could this not be good? Love the addition of the cereal in this for added texture!

Rachel @LittleChefBigAppetite
Yum! I still eat (healthy) cereal all the time! Gotta love Honey Nut Cheerios 🙂 Or anything with Peanut Butter (because obvi!)
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Cereal is one of life's greatest pleasures (and PB!)
Uma
Like the name "Power ball". Very simple and good one 🙂
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
They do give you power!
Jenn
Clearly I need to get this cereal! Peanut butter and chocolate is a love match for sure. And I love how easy these are. Definitely going to need some for pot-workouts (or for sneaking after the kids are in bed - cause I don't want to share!!).
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Stock up on the cereal!!! You will not be disappointed! (And yea...you'll need to hide these bad boys 😉 )
Mandy
OMG!!!!!! This. I am already in love because it's the best combo ever!!! We always have that cereal on hand, so I'm super excited to make these!!! I don't have that peanut butter though or peanuts...gosh, this started off well, but now I'm sad! Definitely need to pick up the missing ingredients and make these next week! I'm laughing so hard because my favorite cereal growing up was frosted shredded wheat...but I'd pretty much eat the frosted part off and throw the soggy leftover bits away. So bad. These look and sound amazing - I can't wait to make these!!!!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
That cereal is crack!! Hahaha! It's so perfectly chocolatey!!! And Ah! Peanuts STAT!
Yea! You mean Frosted mini wheats??? Yes! The forsted side was the BEST!!! I would always pick out the squares from the box that had the most frosting!!
Megan - The Emotional Baker
I love making energy bites! I bet these are so tasty because they use the best ingredients - love!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Haha, yes!! Thank you so much sweetheart!

Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine

I looked at your pics Rebecca and thought "they look great" but I bet they take quite a few ingredients.
Nope! I stand corrected. How easy and delicious are these to make? Wow! You always make things that look difficult simple! Love it! 🙂
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Bites are always so easy! One of those things I feel silly even posting as a recipe!
Chrissa - Physical Kitchness
Ok cereal is my top #1 guilty pleasure. I LOVE Life, Kix, and Cocoa Pebbles. I never buy it, because even though I know it's bad for me (and gluten will make my psoriasis flair up), I still have no willpower. I must try these O's!!! And your balls look soooooo nummy. I won't have willpower with these either!!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Kix were totally rockin! And cocoa pebbles!!! Both are gluten-free....surprisingly 😛 but it's better to get our chocolate fix from BEANS!!!! Hahaha!
Kristy @ Southern In Law
You know I love anything chocolate and peanut butter flavoured! I actually never liked cereal when I was a kid and don't really eat any now either!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
I have no words for that :O
Erin
I can't believe how easy these are to make! I have always been a cold cereal for dessert kind of a person - as an adult. As a kid, we were allowed Cheerios and Post Raisin Bran only (not Kelloggs!). I need to find this cereal!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Haha! Cereal is the perfect day starter and ender! But any cereal lover will LOVE these bites!!!
Kelly
We were never allowed sugary cereals growing up, so I ate a lot of Cheerios with fresh fruit. How cool that these cereals are bean based. I need to check them out.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Haha, sadness :O
Yes! Load up on bean cereal instead!
patricia @ Grab a Plate
Cereal is always a go-to for me, day and night! This is a great recipe! I might eat the whole bunch of these treats. That's okay, right?
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Cereal is never a bad idea 😉 And that's totally a-okay in my book!
Danielle Omar
Yum!! All of my favorite things in one lovely little ball! Can't wait to make these !
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Yes! Thanks Danielle!
Amy
These look yummy.
As a kid we were only allowed granola. My dad was very strict with sugary cereals. My husband laughs at all the cereals I've never had.
My favorites now are Cheerios and Frosted Flakes.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Haha, well I hope it was homemade granola, otherwise he was giving you sugar and calorie bombs!
Deborah @ Confessions of a mother runner

Ahhh so much chocolate peanut buttery goodness! I love cereals but haven't had any in years! Used to eat them everyday. Really need to try some of the gluten-free options out there. I sense I may be missing out!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
How can you live without cereal!!???
Jennifer A Stewart
Cap'n Crunch is my favorite too even though it shreds my mouth. Iw ill go back bowl after bowl! But I also have a serious problem with peanut butter cups. Thanks for satisfying my craving without shredding my mouth or makin gmy waistline expand!

The mouth destruction is part of the charm!! Hahahaha!
Hahahaha, my pleasure 😉 xoxo

Super duper deliciousness! Love the chocolate-peanut combo ♥︎
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
One of the ultimate classics!
Natalie | Feasting on Fruit
That ingredient list. That is the making of one epic chocolate PB bite! But i have to confess something. I tried the Love Grown Foods Os (original and chocolate)...and I am not a fan 😮 I know, I know, you aren't going to be happy and it seems I'm the odd one out because everyone loves them. But i can taste the beans...its not okay. But I can make these with another chocolatey cereal like my fave cocoa crisps! Oh and Vans has a new chocolate one too I think! Oh and cereal in a plastic cup was my car snack of choice for years too 🙂
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
HOWWWWW!? The original ones taste...like plain and beany, but the chocolate ones taste like cocoa puffs!
Cup cereal was the best!! I think the plastic gave it something "extra" 😉
Chrystal @ Gluten-Free Palate
This is the perfect "after workout" snack. Can't wait to try them!

YES YES YES, YUMMY YUMMY YUMMY! I have NEVER made power balls before, and I know that Harry is secretly wishing that I do every single day (for real, he brings it up sometimes). I'm going to blow his mind when he comes home tomorrow from work and sees these.:D

Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
That's right! There is no such thing 😉
Leah M @ love me, feed me
Yassss! Love these! Such a different twist on the usual power ball, love it!
I actually hated cereal as a kid, the only one I would eat is Reese Puffs, but I barely ever got them. Now I'm making up for all those lost years and eating alllll the cereal. My favourites are probably any kind of flake cereal, but I always mix up a bunch of cereals when I have a bowl. More the better 😉
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
WHATTT!!!!!! What kind of child were you!? Bahahahaha!
I'm SO glad you're making up for lost time now 😉
Sarah
You had me at Chocolate Peanut Butter, and my favorite chocolate peanut butter at that!!! Nicely done, might have to make some to whip up and take with on the plane this week while heading to Expo!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
YES! Do it!!! They'll get you safely there 😉
Alisa @ Go Dairy Free
What a fun recipe and holiday! Love this easy treat. I was a boring kid who loved the taste of whole grains - I liked cereals like grape nuts!

Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine

Ellen @ My Uncommon Everyday
I have yet to try Love Grown cereals but I totally want to - especially now! My favorite cereal growing up was Oatmeal Crisp Raisin and I never see it anymore... but I also loved (and still love) Honey Bunches of Oats, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Life, and Multigrain Cheerios. And many more!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
BUY THE CEREAL STAT!!!! You can get a good deal on Vitacost!
....I don't even think I've heard of that one?? What company made it??
Trish
Oh yum!! Two of my favorite flavors together. These look so good.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Thank you Trish!
Melissa @ vegan does it
We love our cereal around here too! Raisin Bran was always a favorite of mine and I still eat it often. I also liked the peanut butter Cap 'n Crunch a lot as a kid. I haven't tried Power O's yet, but cereal made from beans, how awesome! And there's really nothing better than pb and chocolate so these power balls sound great!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
You must try this cereal Melissa!! My mom liked Raisin bran!! But if you look (from the raisins) it has even more sugar then Capt'n crunch!!! CRAZY!
Michele @ paleorunningmomma
My mom would let me have the crunch berry cereal for a "snack cereal" and I know that taste too! Something about it is crazy addicting, definitely some sort of brainwash advertising going on there! The crunch was very crunchy too lol 🙂 I love a good snack bite and chocolate never hurts at all, yummy!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Haha "snack"...pshhh...That was a QUALITY breakfast 😉
pragati
Ok...so there is some cereal here..I often make something like this with just peanuts but now have to try adding chocolate!!
Honey Bunches of Oats has to be my fave - and yes Crunch Berries, even fruit loops and apple jacks...as sugary as they are..And Cinnamon Toast crunch!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
O man!! I forgot apple jacks!! Those were good too!!! I mean really...was there ever a BAD cereal? 😉 Hahaha!
Emily
Oh wow! At first I thought that these had dates, and I was SO excited to see that they don't for this time, because I ran out of dates! That was providential. 🙂
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Don't worry, you will never find dates in my snack bite recipes!
Hannah @CleanEatingVeggieGirl
I seriously LOVE that you used cereal in these. How creative! I bet they would be totally delicious with sunflower seed butter, too 😀
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
No, that wouldn't be the recipe and would defeat the purpose.
