What better way to celebrate the holidays than by baking up some Gluten-Free Christmas Tree Sugar Cookies? These super easy Christmas cookies are vegan, allergy-free, and perfect for the kids to help bake and decorate! A simple cut-out sugar cookie recipe with festive icing and fun decorations that you can gift or enjoy yourself!
Christmas is all about cookie baking, eating, and decorating which means you can never have too many options! If you're looking for a perfect gluten-free cut-out sugar cookie that has all the festive flair then these adorable Christmas tree cookies are a must!
Ingredients You Need
- Gluten-Free Baking Flour: I like to use a 1 to 1 baking flour for a lighter, sweeter cookie, rather than all-purpose.
- Baking Powder
- Commercial Egg Replacer: Any powdered egg replacer will do!
- Vanilla Extract
- Granulated Sugar Sweetener: Use your favorite granulated sugar or sweetener.
- Vegan/Allergy-Free Butter: You just need 1 full stick of your favorite allergy-free butter.
- Unsweetened Non-Dairy Milk
Simple Icing & Decorations
- Powdered Sugar Sweetener: Use your favorite powdered sugar or sweetener.
- Water
- Vanilla Extract
- Natural Green Food Coloring
- Corn Syrup*: This is 100% optional, but a small dab of corn syrup will make your icing shiny.
- Christmas Tree Sprinkle Candy: I used a little sprinkle set from Wilton. You can use whatever allergy-free decorations you can find.
Making Your Cut-Out Christmas Tree Cookies
- Mix your dry ingredients together, then add in the cold butter and wet ingredients. Knead the dough with your hands and then let it chill for at least 30 minutes so your cookies won't spread!
- Once the dough is nice and cold, roll it out to about ΒΌ-inch thickness (you can roll a bit thinner for a crispier cookie or thicker for a softer cookie). Then use Christmas Tree-shaped cookie cutters and cut out as many trees as possible with the dough. The amount will vary depending on the size of your cookie cutter.
- Then bake them at 350Β°F for just about 10 minutes until they are just slightly golden around the edges. Time may vary depending on the thickness of your cookies!
- Then let them cool on a wire rack completely before you commence the decorating!

Decorating The Cookies
You can decorate your tree sugar cookies however you want, but for a little direction, here's what I did:
Simple Green Icing:
- Start with your powdered sugar and then add just enough water for the icing to be thick, but spreadable. It should be able 1 tablespoon per cup of sugar.
- Add as many drops of green food dye as you want to get your perfect shade of Christmas tree green! You can also add a tiny dab of light corn syrup if you want your icing to dry with a nice shiny sheen!
Once you have the icing mixed, you can use it to either spread onto the cookies or using an icing decorator or small squeeze bottle to first outline the cookie and then flood the cookie with icing to fill. Obviously, if you have the kids making these, they don't need to look perfect, but if you are making them, you may want more precision! Then before the icing dries, add some fun confetti-style sprinkles as ornaments and a star on top!
Gift Them or Enjoy Them Yourself
This "little forest" of cute Christmas tree cookies is perfect for cookie swapping, packaging up for a yummy edible gift during the holidays, and of course enjoying them yourself with the family! They're completely:
- Gluten-Free
- Vegan
- Allergy-free (Dairy-Free, Soy-Free, Egg-Free, Nut-Free, Peanut-Free, Wheat-Free, Sesame-Free, Corn-Free, Coconut-Free)
- Low in Sugar
- Kid-Friendly
- Quick and Easy
Your decorated vegan cookies will be best if eaten within 2 weeks at room temperature in a sealed container. You can also freeze undecorated cookies for about 6 months for best results! Thaw them in the fridge before decorating as normal!

Have you ever experimented with completely grain-free flour? Sadly, I cannot have any grains... I have not found a cookie recipe yet that would work - these look DELICIOUS!!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
I have some grain-free cookies on the site. Remember, that grain-free flours are not really "flours". They are just (i.e) grounded up nuts or some sort.

These came out so cute!

Gluten free and egg free can be such a challenge. Nice to see that you were able to do both. And I really like Bob's Red Mill flours. Such pretty little cookies that even I can eat!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
It's the most readily available flour brand, haha!
