The easiest slow cooker pumpkin butter to make this autumn and winter season! Nothing can be more cozy than thick, sweet, dreamy aromas and tastes of perfectly spiced and sweetened pumpkin butter! No need to roast your own pumpkin for this gluten-free, vegan, paleo, and allergy-free crock-pot recipe either!
Do we even need words? I’ve loved pumpkin butter for years now and as part of my mission this season to make the trifecta of “butters” (apple, pear, and pumpkin), well of course it happened! Pumpkin Butter it is SO damn easy! Just grab a slow cooker, a big ‘ole can of pumpkin, some brown sugar and spices…and your pumpkin dreams will come true!
I always have a hard time explaining “fruit butter” to people. When i say something like, “I LOVE APPLE/PUMPKIN/PEAR BUTTER”, people think I mean “butter”. That is far…very far, from the case. I always just end up telling them that I mean “the best alternative to jelly or jam” (aka, fruit spread heaven!) This is the kind of butter you can eat with a spoon and it would be socially acceptable.
Spreading pumpkin butter on toast, nut/seed butter sandwiches, swirled in oatmeal/porridge, a topping for pancakes/waffles, in baked goods, or what you should fill your spoon with when you open the fridge after a long day! It basically tastes like a spoonful of perfect creamy pumpkin pie! When I sent my mom a jar, she chose the spoon method (she said she didn’t have anything to spread it on) and told me it tasted like pumpkin pie too (as an unbiased opinion!)
I thought this slow cooker pumpkin butter would have to spend hours in the crockpot, but that was not the case. I was breathing in the beautiful sweet pumpkin and spice aromas for a few hours while I typed up a paper for school, but soon enough I was able to taste test 😉 Gluten-free, vegan, paleo, allergy-free, and low-sugar or super-low sugar if you want! Pumpkin butter is slow cooked to that deep richness and gets that dark burnt-orange color due to the brown sugar. You can cut the brown sugar by making some “fake-brown-sugar“, but the 1/2 cup that this recipe uses is worth it to keep the “real” (I know…you’re shocked that I said that)!
I’ll give you the notes for that below in the recipe, but nothing beats a little dark brown sugar during the fall/winter/holiday season! Pumpkin butter is also super easy and perfect for filling a pretty jar with a ribbon and gifting it for the holidays. Although, if you go down that route, you’ll need some self control to not eat it all from your recipients jars! Making some daily slow cooker pumpkin butter wouldn’t be a bad idea either, come to think of it! We are using the quick and easy “cheater” method here!
