Eat this, not that! Gluten-free edition. Learn the essential, but still delicious, swaps to your new gluten-free diet! Think you can't have pasta or bread as a celiac? Think again! Just eat these simple gluten-free swaps to replace all your old gluten-containing favorites!
You know those "Eat This, Not That!" books, right? When I was younger and would go to the library, I would always seek them out in the stacks! I loved looking through them and thought they were always so "fun" and fascinating! I loved all the different editions they had. I didn't look through them for the nutritional info (I was young and couldn't care less), but I liked to look for the familiar products I ate or had seen before and what would be swapped with that or vise versa. It's been years since I've gotten my hands on one, but I thought it would be a fun idea to do my own "gluten-free" edition! There are many, many swaps you can and must make when going gluten-free due to celiac disease. As I was compiling this I realized there are a TON to "1 to 1" replacements for classic favorites. This will be PART 1 of another new series! I'll include 10 swaps in each post, so let's get to it!
Wheat Pasta: Eat Banza or TruRoots, Not Barilla!
White Bread: Eat Canyon Bakehouse Mountain White or Udi's White Bread, Not Wonder Bread!
Homestyle Frozen Waffles: Eat Van's Homestyle Waffles or Make your own, Not Eggo's Homestyle!
Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies: Eat Enjoy Life Foods Soft Baked or Make your own, Not Chewy Chips Ahoy!
Crunchy Chocolate Chip Cookies: Eat Enjoy Life Foods Crunchy, Not Chips Ahoy!
All-Purpose Flour: Eat Bob's Red Mill, Not Gold Medal!
Frozen Lasagna: Eat Amy's Frozen Lasagna or Udi's or Ceaser's, Not Stouffer's!
Fruit Loops: Eat Freedom Foods TropicO's, Not Kellogg's Fruit Loops!
Frosted Flakes: Eat EnviroKidz Amazon Frosted Flakes, Not Kellogg's Frosted Flakes!
Boxed Mac & Cheese: Eat Annie's or Daiya or Make your own, Not Kraft Mac and Cheese!
See! There are plenty of perfect swaps for all your old favorites! So dry those Celiac tears and grab a bowl of "frosted flakes"! This is pure gluten-free growth and progress in the industry! (One day, maybe I'll be able to enjoy Cap'n Crunch again....)
So tell me:
+ Did you ever read the "Eat This, Not That!" books?

I love the Canyon Bakehouse GF bread! I just discovered it not that long ago. Aldi's makes a pretty good version also.
Also, I've never seen the Amy's GF DF lasagna. Where do you buy it?
Glad I found you. Thanks for sharing! 🙂
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
I don't eat it, but my mom does! We have it at our normal grocery.
Pali
This is great, I never knew there were so many gluten free options! Really appreciate this list, thanks!

Britney
This is great! I've tried a few of the gluten-free alternatives you mentioned but I'll have to try the others.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Tones to try! Have fun 😉

OMG! Amy's makes vegan/gf lasagna???? Damn. I need to try that. Oh and Annie's Mac n' Cheeze. I totally don't explore the grocery store enough, I just grab what I need & go. Silly me missing out on all of these fun products.
Have you tried the Enjoy life cookies? I have seen them, but haven't tried them yet.
I totally remember those books when I was a kid - I thought they were fun too 🙂
I'm pinning!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Are you kidding? Haha! That's why I love grocery shopping! I take some me time, relax, and browse every inch of that store!
Enjoy Life cookies are a food allergy kid staple! One of the first things I ever had way back in the day....like 7 years ago! Of course!

This is a very helpful post that I'll have to share with my husband as we attempt to make the switch to gluten free this summer. Thank you for sharing!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
I'm sure you'll find some great swaps for old favorites to ease the transition!

Hi Rebecca,
So often, a picture is truly worth a thousand words. That is the case with this super helpful Eat This, Not That Gluten Free Guide! These visual reminders are certain to help a lot of people simplify their GF shopping!

Glad you enjoyed!

Hooray! Jumping up and down, I love this series. Most times when I'm shopping I just grab what I need, what I already know is gluten-free, this will help to expand my menu options. Most times we eat fresh. But there are times when I just want to grab something quick. I will be reading the series with extreme interest and thank you for taking the time to putting it together.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Yea, haha! This is not supposed to be "healthy" swaps, just gluten-free swaps!

I don't have Celiac Disease, but do have Crohn's Disease...and I've noticed that besides animal fat, certain grains are my biggest triggers. I have been considering eliminating gluten to determine if this protein is the source of my grain problems. So, this post is right on time because I am so confused about what to do about flour and bread. Thank you, Rebecca! (P.S. I am LOVING Boka! That is one of the best product recommendations that I have come across in a long time.)
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Yes, I know very well. Since both are severe autoimmune diseases, they can be linked.
And I am SOOO happy to hear that! Haha! I love it too! I'm so glad I was able to share Boka with everyone! xoxo
Kathleen
I need to look some of those products up, and see if I can locate them anywhere.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
I hope you can!
Julie
I've never seen the eat this not that books, I don't think they've ever been a thing here in the UK.
I've just started a month long low fodmap diet which is wheat and rye free but also no pulses and I'm finding lots of gluten replacements have chick peas. (it involves cutting out lots of other things too but after a month I'll be able to reintroduce things and see where that takes me) I'm still at the reading the label of everything stage but it's good to know that there are lots of alternatives out there,
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Yes, low FODMAPs is a very very hard diet to follow, but it is good for figuring out intolerences, etc. Good luck to you!
Jen
I have food sensitivities. I can eat some gluten but not very much. Love the pictures great job!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Well I hope these fun swaps can give you ideas!
Kristy @ Southern In Law

Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Exactly! There really are pretty killer swaps!
Maria@SewTravelInspired
I loved this series and this one looks like fun also. The trick is not to just read them but make the life changes also. Thay's where I fall down on the job.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Haha, well I never really ate the fast food and junk those books had 😛
Amberjane
I love that our local Aldi has lots of gluten free alternatives and they are very tasty!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Mmm, but Aldi products aren't so safe.
Jelica
So informative! I am gluten-free and it took me so long to figure out what I could and coudn't eat. Glad there is a resource out there to take some of the hard work out of it! Thanks for sharing.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
There are so many great swaps to ease the transition!

I've never read the "Eat This, Not That" books, but I like these swaps! 😀 There are definitely some swaps in here that I'd prefer over the others (e.g. Banza, Amy's, Bob's Red Mill)! 😀 I haven't tried the others yet, so can't comment on those! 😛
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
You have to check out those books! They make me laugh too 😛
Chrissa - Physical Kitchness

This is so fun! I used to love those books too! But don't all the Canyon Bakehouse breads have egg in them?
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Yes, but this is a gluten-free post, not top 8.
Natalie | Feasting on Fruit
I realize that, it's just not your usual style 🙂 And I was just curious if they had some without.
Karissa
Love this type of post! I need to try that Banza chickpea pasta. Yum. I am down for all things chickpea.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Banza is a must (or make your own 😉 )
