Friday Finisher 2/6/15

Published: Feb 6, 2015 Β· Modified: Jan 3, 2020 by Rebecca Pytell Β· This post may contain affiliate links.

This week was not my best. I am so glad it is over (and went by pretty quickly). Monday was good, so the week started out okay, but Wednesday everything went downhill. I gave myself food poisoning! ME! I know! I should have known better. This is how it happened: On Sunday I began sprouting some chickpeas and cranberry beans together. I rinsed everyday, did the whole thing, planning to eat them Wednesday for my rushed dinner at 4pm before my bio lab. Which I did. I ate them, but they smelled a bit funny. Now, usually sprouting does make them smell a bit (but I usually just sprout lentils), and these also didn't really sprout (our dorm has also been very "hot", like the thermostat was up at 90 two nights!). But I ate them, raw, crunchy, a little slimy. (No good!). About 30 minutes later, my stomach hurt so bad and I was so full. I felt sicker and sicker as the night went on and finally I just went to bed, unable to move or the nausea would be to much. I woke-up in the middle of the night (having to pee), but couldn't get up or I knew my stomach would rebel, so I just went back to sleep....dieing. It was like this the rest of the night and all morning.

When I got up Thursday morning to get ready for class...I had to move so slow (and I took about 1000 Pepto), or I would have died. Somehow I made it all the way to the furthest possible building for my class in the freezing cold and wind. (Intestinal stomach distress ensued during class as I tried to keep my cool). I had no idea how I would make it back to the bus to get home and then go to another class later! Let's just say my life sucked all day and if I even think about beans or picture that meal I get (still do) so nauseous and sick. First of all, uncooked beans are dangerous anyway (i.e. kidney beans can kill you), so I was also googleing all day to see if I would die. Now my insides are just all sore and I feel as though I was glutened or something (so I know how to deal with the pain). But really...I just want to feel good....and be able to eat normal! Alas, I am stupid and this was 100% my fault! So anyway, I'll be sticking to the BRAT diet for today (bread, rice, apples, toast!).

Anyway, I hope you week was A LOT better than mine! So good that you have tons of energy to read all this good stuff I have for you today! XOXO Stay warm, I hear another storm is coming to the North East? They say 50s down here in DC...but we shall see! I'm off to rest now (and not think about raw death beans).

Oh man, I've only had food poisoning once and it was truly awful, so glad you're starting to feel better! Actually your description of slimy raw beans is making my stomach lurch a little! I've never sprouted beans and generally just stay away since they really aggravate my IBS, but I would probably be too scared to now after reading this! Take care of yourself this weekend!

Sprouting is awesome! Just....not for all beans (I'll stick to lentils from now on), but also the conditions in my dorm room were really bad for the process....But yea, I won't be sprouting for awhile...ek!

Sounds like this past week wasn't a winner for many of us - but sorry to hear you were sick! Food poisoning is the absolute worst!

I freaking LOVE the Walking Dead and cannot wait for it to start back again. At the moment, our obsessed list is TWD, Supernatural, Helix (if you like the suspense of TWD - Helix is even more suspenseful) The 100 and Once Upon a Time - a totally random mix up of shows but they're all so good, haha.

It's so hard to stay hydrated when you have food poisoning; I don't know how you made it to class! But, I also understand how difficult it is to stay in bed. You poor kid! I hope you're feeling better soon. My son had food poisoning last week and if his girlfriend hadn't been there to take care of him I think I would have hopped on a plane to go and take care of him. I always worry about dehydration.

Great links, as usual! I'm kind of on the fence about the recipe stealing story. I will link to a blog or site if I've actually seen a recipe that inspired me or I gave my own twist on it. There are many times when I see a recipe that looks exactly like one of mine that was featured on Foodgawker, Finding Vegan, or Tastespotting just a few days earlier, and I freak out and think how DARE they copy me. But then, I calm down and remember that there really are no new ideas, only adaptations of old ones. For example, there are a million vegan pudding recipes made with avocados, so I wouldn't be so presumptuous to think that someone must have stolen MY recipe, because there were so many similar ones before mine. To me, worrying about that is wasted energy, unless they steal my pictures, then game on!

O man, and it is SO hard to drink when your stomach hurts!
And yea, I agree with you. Like the recipes she spoke of in the post seemed to "not unique" so of course many people have their own versions. But yea if someone copies your exact version and pictures and claims they developed the recipe (even though it has been out there for years) then there is a problem. Food blogging is weird, but obviously there are are going to be more than one pizza, pasta, pudding recipe out there!
