You know how the instinct of any parent would be to save their child from a fall no matter what. It's inherent and just happens and all costs. Well on Monday, the streets, sidewalks, everything was wet, icy, snowy, and slippery from the terrible weather over the weekend. I was walking to my morning class (very early, no one was in the city streets), after I made my trip to Starbucks to get my venti dark roast. I had the coffee in my left hand, my heavy backpack (with 85lb laptop) on my back, and trying to stay warm in the cold. I crossed the street at the crosswalk and was turning the corner to walk down to the building I needed to go to and BAM! Body meets ground. Now the whole "parent instinct" thing comes in, just wait. So all of a sudden I was just on the ground, in pain. I landed on my "left side butt" and left knee (from what I could tell in the moment) with no hands.
Now, get this. Somehow my coffee was perfectly upright and safe (like a child) in my left hand (no spills!). Do not ask me how I managed that, but I'm guessing I am so subconsciously in love with coffee, I really don't know. My body got pretty beat up though. My "side butt" is super sore, the side of my left knee is bruised, and then I noticed my left ankle was bleeding and had "sidewalk rash". Not fun. Somehow I did manage to pick my self up and limp to class. The other funny thing is, I was thinking so hard about not falling that morning, yet I did. So now when I'm going to class, I'm dead scared to even take a step. Really...I need the warm weather. The ground is much safer then.... 😉

I can't believe you fell and saved your coffee. Damn that is skilled! I'm glad you're ok. Falling can be tough on your poor body. I'll try to send some of my warm weather to you ;p
Vegan ice cream snickers?????!!!!! =)

Just popped over on your blog because OMG those food pics - I didn't even know I was hungry! Can't wait to read some of the posts!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Hahaha! Enjoy 😉
Nicky
That's amazing that you didn't spill your coffee. I hope you are recovering okay from your spill. I hate it when I'm trying really hard not to do something and it happens anyway. This week's recipes look really good.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Thanks Nicky 😉 I know, when we aren't focusing on something we end up with better results!
Kristy @ Southern In Law
Hahaha I wondered where you were going with your story but I LOVE that you saved your coffee. Priorities, girl! 😉

Eeeek I hope you're okay! I once slid down an entire flight of stairs- on my bum. Needless to say, I was pretty bruised and sore afterwards. I am so impressed that your coffee stayed upright! That is definitely mama instinct right there 😉 As for all the reads- the food industry's role in research always creeps me out. Always. I wish more people knew about it! And I have all your blogging related posts open. So many tabs hehe but so excited to read them all! (My boyfriend always laughs at the number of tabs I have open on my laptop. OOPS.) Happy Friday!!

Thanks so much for sharing love! Can't wait to read all these great posts.
I was cracking up reading your coffee story. The whole time I kept thinking, omg I hope she didn't spill it on herself and I was so happy at the end (minus the sore butt part)
Have a fab weekend!!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Hahahaha 😉 I really wish I could have it taped and what the whole thing from above to see how it actually happened!
XOXO stay warm!
Rachel
I'm glad your coffee was safe but sorry you fell! That sucks. There's an instinct when driving, when you have to slam on the brakes to put your arm out to "save" whatever is in the passenger seat. I do it to keep my purse from hitting the floor, but found myself doing it when my husband is in the passenger seat. He thinks I'm nuts!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Omg! Haha, my mom has done that for me!
Tianna
thanks for sharing all these delicious food pins and all the awesome articles! I've just now been trying to build up Google+ - BLAH wasted effort lol. no idea how I had over 100 followers already without posting much on there anyway lol. thanks for all the helpful links. also hope your side butt feels better! Similar thing happened to me when I slipped on stairs at my old house. I fell down an entire flight of stays and dropped everything but the Ipad. I dunno about you, but I like where are priorities are at. lol have a nice weekend!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Haha, yea, Google+ is such a waste! I just have my posts automatically go up there!
Haha, o goodness! I guess it shows we aren't so selfish either 😉 We'd rather save something else than ourselves, hahahahaha!

Hey thanks for the link love and glad you liked our article! All those pins made me hungry (and it's only just after lunchtime!).

Haha no problem Kim 😉 XOXO O I know! Dangerous....but perfect to get the dinner ideas going!

Haha! 🙂 XOXO
Linda @ Veganosity
Great posts, as usual! 🙂 I particularly liked the one about how the food industry helps to shape research. This type of practice has led me to not trust most of the studies that are released in regards to food. When the dairy industry, meat industry, Coca-Cola, and other companies are funding research, there is clearly a conflict of interest. Sadly, most things seem to always come down to the almighty dollar.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Exactly! I never believe any study that comes out. Too many are so biased or will son be refuted by another study. Plus, science and health is always changing...
Andie
wow, Rebecca, thank you for posting my recipe! I'm glad you're unharmed along with your coffee
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Haha, you're so welcome! And thanks 😉
Michele @ paleorunningmomma
OMG a vegan snickers? Snickers is my favorite candy bar! I hear you on the ice and weather in general. My driveway is terrible and so slippery even with salt. I know what you mean about the coffee, I would have done the same, also for my phone! It's funny the things we think about when something like that happens. I have also done some crazy one handed kid-catches in my time as a mom 🙂 Glad you're just sore and scraped and nothing worse!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Not just that, it's with cashew ice cream!!!!
Haha ugh! All of a sudden I was just on the ground and then I looked at my left hand and it was holding that damn coffee perfectly unscathed!
My brother's friend slipped this week at school and broke his ankle! I know I am super lucky here!
Melanie @ Nutritious Eats
Are you kidding with those snickers bars? Whoa. Ok, I am just pinning this whole post to go through later. Stay warm and safe. 😉
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
I KNOW! When I saw them I was like......jaw drop! And obviously they needed to be in the Friday Finisher!
Shashi RunninSrilankan
Oh Rebecca - I am glad you protected your coffee so well, but I hate to hear your got so badly hurt! I hope you heal up this weekend!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Haha, thank you Shashi! I'll be okay! Just may be scared forever about walking on the sidewalks now!
Rebecca
Great round-up! I've got quite the reading list today 🙂
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
😉 Good! haha!
Natalie @ Feasting on Fruit
Hahahahahaha!!! I loved your coffee child story!!! 😀 Made me laugh! I wasn't sure how you were going to twist in the mother-child thing, I was waiting for your mom to like magically swoop in and catch you or something, but you and the venti roast obviously have a very close relationship LOL You are so funny!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Haha, I knew I had to tell the story and what better place than the Friday Finisher to share some rambles 😉 It was a good time...although my butt....still sore!
Farrah
I'm so sorry about your fall, but...I'm glad you rescued your coffee? 😛 I've been walking like a toddler penguin lately because I've had several close calls. ._. I have had that instinct with food, hahaha. Someone shoved me into a pool as a joke back in junior high and although I fell in, the food I was holding escaped perfectly unscathed (yay for that outstretched hand in the air!).
Can't wait to read everything else! And...it looks like I'll never have to figure out Google+ now, hahaha. 😡
Thanks for sharing my post, and I hope you have a wonderful weekend! Stay warm! <3
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Hahahaha 😉 The love of food and coffee....it's just so REAL 😉 Damn ice and snow though....it needs to be gone!
I know! No more Google+ or should I say Google- now 😉
XOXOXO Stay warm to my lovely!

Lots of great posts and recipes! Loving that Lemon Basil Chicken, yum!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
I wish I could have that for dinner!
Lisa @ RunWiki
OMG- I wasn't sure what was going to happen at the end of your ice slipping story. I was relived to hear you were okay, but laughed how you saved your baby. Listen, I mothers instinct is strong and like a bear-- don't mess with my baby! haha! I am the same way with my morning tea. Hope your weekend is gorgeous, just like you. xoxo hugs
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Haha, thank you Lisa! If that coffee had spilled...I really would have cried and just stayed on the ground...no point!
XOXOXO Have a beautiful weekend yourself!
Heather @ Life In Leggings
Ha, I totally get the reference to mothering instincts with coffee. I have done the exact same thing before! How crazy. I'm sorry to hear about your fall though - that sounds like you might be sore for a while. Take care this weekend! xo
Oh, and those vegan ice cream bars look AMAZING!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Haha! See, everyone's a mother to something in life....for me, that's coffee 😉 Thank you though! Haha! It just feels like I did some MAJOR heavy squats at the gym 😉

I always go through your list intending to talk about the ones I want to look at, but I get so overwhelmed as there are So many good ones, especially for bloggers. I need to take more time to read those kind of blogs, and then I get to the recipes, and all my thoughts go out the window as they look so good! You ended with ice cream snickers....all was lost 😉
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Hahahaha! That happens for me to when I read round-ups!
Omg....that ice cream...I can't even!
