All you need is 2 ingredients to make these super simple and easy Homemade Cinnamon Ornaments! A great DIY holiday craft or fun Christmas gift for both kids and adults to make and customize!
That adorable and easy DIY Christmas present I made a few years ago for my family and friends, finally all written out for YOU to try yourself! If you've been a Strength and Sunshine reader over the years, you know I love to channel my inner crafter during the holiday season and DIY all my holiday gifts. From memory jars, nail polish mugs, and of course FOOD!
I can't tell you what I'm making this year, as it would spoil the surprise for my family, but I'm going to edible gift route this year. That is if all goes as planned. You know I have my last final on the 23rd? Yea! Next week is going to be stressful, to say the least. Since I'm making edible gifts, I can't prep them too far ahead of time. So in between studying and going to take my finals, I'll be playing Santa in my apartment kitchen!
Now, if you're still looking to DIY an easy gift option for anyone in your family, friends, even coworkers, I have the perfect project for you! The famous 2 ingredient cinnamon ornaments! Literally just cinnamon and applesauce...that's it!
Okay, and hooks or string, plus any glitter or other decorations you may want to add, but 100% optional! I like to keep my plain and simple! They are so easy and perfect for last minute guests. Plus, the kids (or all ages) love to make these! There's something so special about a homemade and handcrafted gift!
You're just mixing equal parts applesauce and cinnamon together, rolling out the dough, cutting shapes, and drying them out at a low temperature in the oven for a few hours. Be warned, these make you house smell like cinnamon (strong cinnamon) for...awhile. But that's not bad, eh? 😉

All you need is 2 ingredients to make these super simple and easy Homemade Cinnamon Ornaments! A great DIY holiday craft or fun Christmas gift for both kids and adults to make and customize!
Ingredients
- 1 Cup Cinnamon (plus a few extra tablespoons for easy rolling if needed)
- 1 Cup Applesauce
- Cookie Cutters
- Ribbon
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 250°F.
- In a bowl, mix together the cinnamon and applesauce.
- Place the dough on a Silpat and place another Silpat or a piece of parchment paper on top of the dough.
- Roll the dough out between the surfaces until about 1cm thick. Then cut out shapes with your cookie cutters. Make a small hole at the top of each shape (with a toothpick) for hanging.
- Place the shapes on a Silpat lined baking sheet and dry in the oven for about 2-3 hours (depends on how thick your ornaments are).
- Remove them from the oven, let them cool, and then add your ribbon or hooks to hang and decorate if desired!
These are so fun and I love making a few new ones every year! They are a perfect gift for anyone that you'd like to show some love too, but not in an overly done way. Get creative with them, use big cookie cutters, small ones, glitter glue, etc.! Have fun with your homemade cinnamon ornaments and personalize them! These don't even have to be "Christmas" themed if you don't clebrate! Make them exactly how you'd like!
