No matter who you are or where you are, you can start, grow, and transform your yoga practice. You don't have to start and stop because of life's busyness! Here's how to create a sustainable yoga practice no matter who or where you are!
Hello! Do you remember I used to blog about yoga every so often? Ever since the Strength and Sunshine shift, recipes and food allergy topics are what we've all come to expect. That doesn't mean I still don't have a strong and dedicated yoga practice! You know I'm a firm believer in creating and sustaining a home practice. It's more affordable, always accessible, doesn't rely on specific class times/types/teachers. You create your own routine and yoga vibes. When you aren't relying on a studio and you take responsibility for your own practice, it becomes much more sustainable in the long term. Seven years later and I am still a home-yogi!
My practice begins with my own routines and then I supplement with online instruction. But, when you're trying to create and sustain a new yoga practice, you're going to be lost if you just try to craft asanas on your own. The resources for free online classes that are high quality, safe, educational, and worth your time are few and far between. That's why I always recommend my personal FAVORITE paid online yoga haven to everyone. I have been using MyYogaWorks.com for the last 4 years and it has changed the way I practice. I knew I was going to love these online classes right off the bat. The quality of the instructors as well as the routines they craft, wide variety of levels, time lengths from 5 minutes educational breakdowns to full 90-minute classes.
My absolute favorite class (that I've been doing at least once every week for the last few years) is the advanced level 3, power vinyasa, "Relentless Flow", taught by Vytas Baskauskas. This class is everything I could want! It's a little over an hour in length and still, to this day, challenging! It is such a strong and thorough class, even for an experienced yogi! I feel like I'm taking a high-end yoga class from a renowned instructor right in my own home (dorm room!) No need to get in the car for a trip to some expensive studio, no need for time arrangments, just total privacy, ease, pace, choice, and yoga bliss anywhere you are and whoever you are!
All you need is your laptop, tablet, phone, or even a TV for streaming. You can bring your yoga teacher(s) with you on your journey and have access to them anytime. From vacation, a holiday getaway (when you need to "get away" from family!), to your college dorm (me!). It's comforting to know that you always have access to wonderful classes and inspiration. There's over 1000 classes and more being added regularly. There is something for everyone to love and always more to explore. You won't get bored with your practice and you can practice whenever you want! Sustainable, my friends, that's the key to truly reap the benefits of a committed yoga practice!
So tell me:

Ah yet another reminder that I need to be getting my yoga on. I'm so good with fitness in general, cardio, strength between running, bootcamps, weights & core, but I have yet to pick up yoga consistently. I should give this a try.

This would be a great way then!

Hi, thanks for sharing the info about the on line yoga classes. These would be great to try when I can't get to a class.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
You'll enjoy this much better resource!

I really enjoy doing yoga, but I am not very good at it. 😀 Lucky for me, here in Charlotte, we have various free (or really cheap) classes all over town. The sale price is pretty sweet though!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Well you're a lucky one, that's not easy to find! However, maybe not so lucky since a home practice is like magic!

Great post! I love how accessible it is for everyone when its right at your fingertips! We are all glued to a device at some point in the day! I love my home practice and agree making the effort to get to a class is not always easy. With work, home life and the cost of some studios it can be discouraging to continue your practice. I had not heard of this particular website. Thanks for introducing my to a new platform for yoga! Tal
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Exactly! I think everyone should have some sort of home practice even if they are lucky enough to have an affordable and convenient studio to attend!

Thanks for the info about online yoga classes, Rebecca! I travel with a yoga mat, but I wasn't using online classes. I was just trying to find an affordable class at each destination (which I couldn't find a lot of times.) I'm gonna check out MyYogaWorks!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
I think you'll find this to be perfect then!

Hi......for the past three years I have been travelling throughout South East and Asia and wherever I was all I needed was laptop and yoga mat. You are right there are so many great online classes. Thanks for sharing 🙂
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
That's fantastic, and isn't it true!

I've got to get my yoga practice moving again! I've been so busy, that I haven't made time for me. Thanks for the inspiration this morning! Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
It would be a great way to start the holidays!

I enjoyed your post. I got into yoga after I had my third child. It really helped me tone up my post partum body. I also like to do it to relax. I have a mat and other accessories and have some videos downloaded that I follow. I have a friend who is a yoga instructor and if I have free time and a babysitter I attend some of her classes.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
That is wonderful! I'm so glad you've found a yoga practice that fits your lifestyle!

Such a great post! I'm working on getting into yoga and always do DVDs. I'll have to try this!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
This site is great! So many more options that a DVD! That can get really boring! Haha!

This is amazing! I love yoga but don't do it anywhere near as much as I should! I always choose a HIIT or strength workout when I get the chance to exercise but I know I need to make more time for yoga as it's just as important if not even more important for people like me with anxieties!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
You need this! The videos are really great, and I know my videos!
I consistently practice 3 days a week and have been for many years now <3

I've just recently started using online videos to practice yoga in my dorm room (in fact, I just finished doing that!), so thanks for the tip on a good site to check out! 🙂 Nothing like yoga to relax after a busy day of college classes...
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
This site is a must! Really is my #1 favorite and I could not live without!

My 6 year old daughter recently asked me when I was going to get back into doing yoga. I have some exercise videos from Beachbody that has yoga on it and I guess she wants me to do more! Thanks for the great reminder about this worthwhile exercise!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Ir's never too late to get on the mat! Even get her involved!
Kerri McGrail
I love using diff online/youtube programs for yoga! You really can do yoga wherever you are at! Thanks for reminding me to get on my mat each day 🙂
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Enjoy the stress-free flow 😉
