Immune-boosting, creamy, and delicious! These gluten-free vegan smoothie bowls were made to share with your best friend, no matter how "opposite" they may be! Share the love, share the wellness, share the health!
They say opposites attract. From sweet and savory, naughty and nice, even between food-loving friends. But that's a good thing. Differences allow us to grow, learn, and see things from another perspective. Opposites "fill the gaps", so to speak. My dear friend, Natalie of Feasting On Fruit, who I call my "Fruity Friend", is my opposite. First of all, she is smoothie OBSESSED! This girl could live (or does...) off of smoothies! If this girl doesn't have at least 2 smoothies a day, I think sheĀ would spontaneously combust! Me? I could do without!
Maybe it's because bananas aren't my thing, so I never have them on hand for freezing and turning into smoothies. Bananas are so iconic to smoothies, right? Well, that's the second thing. Natalie loves bananas too. She loves all fruit and that's why she's a high-carb vegan! Don't get me wrong, I love fruit too. But where she is a banana and date kinda girl, I'm more of an apple and Asian pear girl. She doesn't like to eat mango and kiwi skin. However, I think that's the best part! When it comes down to it, if we were on a deserted island and we only had bananas and Brussels sprouts to eat. I would take the sprouts, she would take the nanners.
That brings me to the greatest "opposite attraction", yet. Fruit and veggies! You'd think they don't like to mingle, but I've shown you numerous times that they can and are one of the best food marriages. Lucky for us, this combo is becoming more mainstream and accepted.Ā DoleĀ® Fruit & Veggie Blends are bringing this sweet and savory couple to life in 3 varieties of frozen smoothie mixes (Fruit & Greens, Mango Carrot, and Orange Medley)! Ready to use fruit and veggie combos that pack great taste without the guess work. Just natural, non-gmo frozen fruit and veggies full of fiber and Vitamin A & C. Found at various retailers, including Stop 'n' Shop.
Since you know it's always my goal to make food fun and always be trying new ingredients and techniques to cook with, stepping out of the common foodie routine is a must. Where Natalie is making me more inclined to rekindle my long-lost smoothie blending and I'm challenging her to develop more savory dishes, this immune-boosting smoothie is dedicated to our foodie friendship. One thing I know for certain is that we both love potatoes. Now if potatoes were the only thing we had on our deserted island, there would be a problem. (Natalie better be ready to fight!). "Hypothetically" š Since theĀ DoleĀ® Fruit & Veggie Blend, Orange Medley, is a beautifully orange-filled nutrient-packed combo of mangos, mandarin oranges, pineapple, bananas and sweet potatoes, I thought it would please us both rather nicely. She gets her bananas in the deal, while I'm addingĀ some of my favorite savory immune-boosting additions!
An immune-boosting smoothie will keep us at our best for our foodie endeavors this year. Just like friends boost each other up, no matter their differences, this smoothie will boost you up as well! Quickly whipped up in the NutriBullet (which I was gifted!) and which you can get 15% off when you use the code "BESTBLEND" at check-out on the NutriBullet site (expires 3/31/16).

You are the master! I loved reading this post, the smoothie bowl looks incredible and I will be trying these blends, I had no idea they existed! I do use the fruits as they are a great price and a quality product, I need to look a bit further and purchase some of the blends. I love the story, friendship in a bowl, we are all so unique and we don't have to be alike in order to be the best of friends!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Haha, exactly! Thank you so much Nikki! <3
Laurie
A smoothie in a bowl? That's genius!!
I'm with you...bananas in a smoothie are not my most favorite. I'm looking forward to trying your recipe!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
They're just iconic!
Patty
That is probably the only way you'd get me to eat sweet potatoes š
I think I'm more like your friend although I'm not a big smoothie drinker.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
What!!?????? (To the sweet potato blasphemy).
Dee
My daughter and I have smoothies daily, but not all of my kids are on board. I'll have to try the bowl version with them. š

Smoothie bowls are my jam! I gotta try these out š
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine

Jenn - a traveling Wife
That looks amazing! I've never really been a fan of smoothie bowls though. There is something about eating cold liquid with a spoon that makes me cringe a little bit. Maybe I'm just weird! š
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
If it's super thick than it's like soft serve ice cream!
Melissa
This looks and sounds delish! I'm off to get a new blender. š

I have yet to jump on the smoothie bowl wagon. They are everywhere though, and this one sounds delish! I love smoothies for breakfast, they are fast, simple, and so filling when made with the right ingredients. I love the idea of the fruit and vegetable blends, and I've never seen them in the store, yet! I hope to soon though, so I can give them a try. I've been blending spinach leaves in my smoothies before it became cool! š
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
I'm an advocate for any and all veggie blending into smoothies š Veggies in everything! Pancakes are of course my favorite! Hello zucchini!

This smoothie bowl looks so delicious, Rebecca! š What a great idea. I've never heard of golden berries and I didn't know that you could eat mango skin!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
You seem like a golden berry girl!!
Always eat the skin!!!
Gin
Ha, awesome post! š You guys do have very opposite and wonderful palates, and that's leading to beautiful fruit and veggie smoothie magic! I've been resistant to combining fruits and veggies but you're helping me rethink that. These smoothie bowls look awesome btw. Love that you snuck some apple cider vinegar in there too!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Always have to have both worlds!!! Fruit and veggies were reluctantly made for each other š
Jenn
Too cute! You and Natalie are both rockstars. Love that this Friendship Smoothie Bowl is dedicated to your foodie friendship. š I, for one, will not be eating any mango skins....can't even touch them. I'm allergic to the oils in the skins. Yikes!! It's a shame too because I love mangos! I can eat the "meat" as long as someone else takes the skin off and washes it well for me. š But, this smoothie bowl sounds awesome!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
O goodness! Well then I give you a pass on that one!!! No mango deaths please!!!
Deborah @ Confessions of a mother runner
smoothie bowls are great! I love the addition of the ginger and tumeric.

Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
The greatest things, right? š
Bianca @ ElephantasticVegan
This is such a cute post! Natalie creates the most awesome fruit-sweetened desserts and you are the bomb in gluten-free savory recipes š I didn't even know one could eat the mango skin... I thought they were poisonous like avocado peel š
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
One of the biggest foodie sins is to throw away mango skin!!!
Sarah
Looks delicious, and you know I love my smoothie bowls! Can I be your friend?
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Hehehe, yes you can!
Emily
I haven't tried a smoothie bowl before - I suppose that I am a purist, and prefer mine from a glass. I'm going to give this a try soon though!

These smoothie bowls sounds perfect for this time of year. I love citrus when the weather turns colder. Perfect immunity fighting goodness.

Right! One of the perks of winter is great citrus!
The Better Baker
What an awesome post! I am a lover of smoothies...and keep fruits in the freezer to make them. I haven't seen the fruit/veggie combo ready-made, but will be looking for them. I'm a lover of sunshine too...and so appreciate your perspective on healthy eating...and opposites. =)
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Haha, well thank you! Enjoy your smoothies!
neil@neilshealthymeals.com
I go through smoothie phases. We'll have them for a few weeks, then I'll get bored of them and go onto something else!
However, when I do make them, I find them easier to make at the weekend, and usually prepare the ingredients for blending as soon as we get in the from our early morning gym workout.
This smoothie recipe I love, and it would be ideal for our return from the gym. Mainly because its in a bowl and would be like eating another breakfast before lunch! š
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
I was like that too! But now, I'm more "not at all or very rare"!
I think anything in a bowl is more fun! Smoothie bowls are just like soft serve ice cream š
Marlynn @ UrbanBlissLife
Ah, I would be your opposite then: I love smoothies! We just got back into making them again. And, I can't eat bananas, so all of our smoothies are without bananas. š These look delicious & nutritious!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Haha! Well there are gallons of ways to make no banana smoothies!!! My favorite, frozen butternut squash or frozen cucumber!
Carrie Ingles Groneman
What a great idea and I would love all of it any way it's put together - smooth or not.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
What do you mean?
Margaretha (Equine Guided MD)
As they say - opposites attract! I certainly have friends to share this with, it looks too delicious and I can certainly do with an immune-boost during this very wet winter!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Thank you! I think we all can use the extra boost!
Gwen @SimplyHealthyFamily
What a wonderful, healthy snack! We will all love this!!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Just a little healthy sweetness!
Rebecca
These look so good, I definitely need an immune system boost! I'm not a fan of bananas either - and if I was stuck on a desert island, I'd live off the brussels sprouts, I LOVE them. I'm not sure they would work in a smoothie though would they?! š
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
I think we should try š
Miss Polkadot
Smoothies are too smooth for me ????. I need plenty of food to chew on to get satisfied. However, that friendship story in your post is so sweet. Natalie is fabulous and I hope the two of you will get to meet up soon! And possibly share smoothies and a bowl of Brussels sprouts ...
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Haha, well that's the exact reason I'm not a smoothie person!
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table
I need this right now! We both take turmeric for inflammation. I think it really does help!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Turmeric is my magic elixir!!
Nicole
I love smoothie bowls but never thought of adding ACV to it. I'll have to try that next time along with your recipe. Sounds nice and summery !
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
It's a great way to boost the immune-power!
Nadia
This is such a sweet idea! It's so nice to see that you've become close friends with another foodie/blogger even though you have different tastes. Smoothies are amazing, but they never fill me up so I rarely make them, but during summer I do crave one every now and then, and yes, they must have bananas! š PS how amazing are golden berries!!!!!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
I think that's why I'm not a smoothie person either! I need to chew my sustenance to feel satisfied!
I love them!!! Like "better" cranberries š
Casey the College Celiac
I could live off of smoothies too! š My favorite fruit/veggie combos are using fruits like bananas and berries with sliced zucchini, squash, and greens in my smoothie bowls. Dose of veggies with only the fruity taste!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
One veggie I love in smoothie is frozen cucumber! It's like "not watery" ice cubes!
Sophia @Veggies dont bite
Awe, love the name! SO sweet! In the summer smoothie bowls are a daily thing over here, we love them. I always try and sneak in the spinach, but the orange banana combo is yum! We love loading them up with nuts, cacao nibs, goji berries, mulberries...you name it! My kids ask for them from time to time in winter too...so maybe I'll have to make another soon!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Mulberries are the best š
Smoothie bowls are ALL about the toppings!
GiGi Eats
LOL friendship smoothie bowls huh?! What a cute little name! I could see little 6 year old girls enjoying these š Not sure why that image comes to mind but it does.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
A tad creepy, but okay.
Charlotte
oo these look delish! they are perfect for the winter with all these colds going around! š
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Exactly!
Natalie | Feasting on Fruit
Awwwwww I don't even know what to say <3 <3 <3 You are the best smoothie bowl making, mango skin eating, surviving on sprouts, not so fruity but getting better by the day friend EVER!!! And you know me so well it's like you can see into my house š® You know all about my multiple smoothies a day habit š We are rather opposite in many ways, but I like to think that that means we just compliment each other well š And yes I would happily give you all of the wild island brussel sprouts for the bananas any day, but if it was potato island we would come up with some sort of sharing arrangement. Or apple island, we'd have to share then too (and both feel like crap the whole time because of the FODMAPS thing hahaha) The smoothie part of this bowl makes me VERY happy! And so do the toppings, of course chia seeds had to be on there, and look at you pulling out the exotic dried fruit with golden berries!! Bravo! I've wanted to try them for a while. We would have the best smoothie bowl party with these <3 Thank you so so so so so so so much my not-so-fruity-but-amazing-me-with-all-these-smoothies friend! XOXOXO
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Hehehe! I'm so glad you approve! I was worried this wouldn't be great enough! I wanted to make you smoothie-proud š
Let's hope it's not an apple island...but if it were a mango island, that could work! I could eat the skin, you could eat the flesh!
And omg! I was going to send you golden berries in that box of fun for Christmas! Now I'm mad I didn't!!!
xoxoxoxoxo
Rachel @LittleChefBigAppetite
Yum! What a healthy and delicious recipe!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Thanks!

The name itself is so attractive. And turmeric and ginger make it savory for me ????. Celery is one veggie I like to add to smoothies.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Thank you! I've added celery before!!! You'd never know!
Hannah @CleanEatingVeggieGirl
That fruit medley sounds amazing! I LOVE that it has frozen bananas in it since that is a favorite of mine for smoothies!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Ha, right? These blends are great!!
Linda @ Veganosity
Love, love, love this post! Such a fun read. You and Natalie are equally adorable. I'm divided right down the middle, I love my fruits and I love my veggies. This smoothie is perfect.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
An all-in-one pleasing bowls for us all! Haha! Thanks Linda <3
Michele @ paleorunningmomma
Had no idea these blends existed and I love it! We go through a lot of frozen fruit in the summer especially with smoothies for the kids, and me occasionally, if they share š
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
They are so new! (Not even on the Dole site yet š hahaha!)
Gotta keep your own mommy stash š
Laura Dembowski
I am smoothie and fruit obsessed and this sounds like a great, healthy treat. You could use any frozen fruit instead of bananas to make the smoothie thick. Btw, you can eat Mango and kiwi skin???
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Yes!!!! You can eat any fruit skin, haha! But mango and kiwi are just the best!! Never ever waste them!
Vanessa @ VeganFamilyRecipes.com
I could used about 10 of these bowls last week! My boys both had the stomach flu for close to two weeks long. I'll have to make this for the whole fam this week to make sure that doesn't happen again. Your pictures are beautiful by the way š
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
O goodness! Sending my wellness!!! Once everyone's "food-ready" load them up on the immunity!
Natalie Tamara
These look so delicious! I recently got a better blender so I'm suddenly all about smoothies (I was definitely like you before and could go for months without so much as thinking about them!) Those ready-made packs look so useful too š
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
They are perfect little blends! No need to by tons of bags of individual fruits!
Theresa S
Those look delish! I'm definitely pinning for later. I see those yogurt bowls all the time and they look amazing! Thanks for sharing!
