Have no fear! Even if you have a nightshade allergy, you can still have ketchup! This Nightshade-Free Ketchup recipe is gluten-free, allergy-free, vegan, paleo, and sugar-free! Perfect for any diet and super-packed with "sneaky" healthy veggie nutrition!
The condiment classic, revolutionized! I always laugh when I see in my analytics that one of the most trafficked posts on Strength and Sunshine is my "What To Avoid With A Nightshade Allergy" post. Now, being a good food allergy influencer, I knew that meant you guys wanted to learn more about nightshade allergies. So if you haven't checked out that post, I suggest you read it or refresh your brain with what exactly a nightshade allergy means when it comes to the foods that can and can't be eaten.
Tomatoes are sadly (tragically) the big iconic nightshade we all know. I say tragically because you know how I feel about my ketchup. "My name is Rebecca and I am a ketchup addict." The torment of not being able to dip your yucca fries in ketchup? Scary thoughts, nightmares, ah! I couldn't let my nightshade-free food allergy brethren suffer like that!
I can always find a solution for you; that's my mission here on Strength and Sunshine. Food allergies won't get in the way of delicious and fun eating! We should all have the opportunity to enjoy every type of food, recipe, eating experience, in some way. Even if you don't even like ketchup and you have a nightshade allergy, you should STILL have the option of ketchup. (However, I bet the reason you have a nightshade allergy is punishment for not liking ketchup! Haha! Joking 😉 )
With my mission to have everyone enjoying some ketchup dipping action, this nightshade-free ketchup solves all the problems. It is loaded with a base of beets and carrots! Naturally colored from the beets and naturally sweet from the carrots. Add some apple cider vinegar and spices, blend it up, and wow! Miracle ketchup! It even gives any picky eaters you have on your hands an extra dose of veggie goodness (all picky eaters love ketchup...right?) Here we have it, nightshade-free, gluten-free, vegan, paleo, allergy-free, and sugar-free! Easy peasy!

I can't have potato which is also a member of the nightshade family apparently? I knew nothing about it until I was tested, there really is little knowledge of this intolerance/allergy.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Yes it is! But not all types of potatoes!

Tomatoes, peppers, etc. A very under the radar allergen that you eat daily!

I'm so impressed with the power of social media that people can connect and share rarer allergies and how to still enjoy simple things such as ketchup!

One thing I don't like about ketchup is all the sugar, so this looks amazing. I'm also a huge beet fan. Saved to try later 🙂 Thanks!

Love that you used beets to get the color spot on. This looks like the homemade ketchup at one of my favorite restaurants - I bet it tastes pretty much the same too based on your ingredients. Def gonna give this a try soon.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Thanks! There's always my "real" homemade ketchup recipe as well!

What a great option you've come up with! It sounds like it's really tasty, and love that it's similar in color to ketchup 🙂

Yes! Just a bit pinker 😉

I honestly did not know that some people had an allergy that kept them from enjoying ketchup! How wonderful that you have come up with a solution for them. My favorite thing to pair with ketchup is...french fries. Pretty obvious, I know, but does it honestly get any better?!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Potatoes always require the ketchup!
