Happy Labor Day! I hope you're taking it easy and enjoying the extra day off from "laboring" 😉 My Friday was pretty good and I felt good. I had a perfect morning: breakfast, gym, quick 50 minutes class. Then lunch and a stroll down to say hi to the White House for the first time since I got down here. (I got there all by myself!) Then I called my mom and chatted with her while sitting on a bench, strolled back, got dinner (the dining chef aced the chicken this time! Plus I made plantains!). Thought I got my cable fixed to...but now it's broken again.
Saturday was rough emotionally again. These days are so draining because of that. The ups and downs are killing me. However, getting in a super long yoga practice and then treating myself to dinner at Whole Foods made it a bit better. Sunday was pretty relaxed too and ended up being a wonderful day. The best I've had so far. Just trying to make these days similar to those I had at home. Weekends are for relaxing/de-stressing, so I tried. Now I have one more day to de-stress to before my second week of classes start. Crossing my fingers things will go smoothly this week and the whole Spanish thing won't kill me...
I still can't get my "first" run out of my head. It was such a cool experience. I don't know if "cool" is the right word, but I don't really know how to describe it. It was different, weird, enlightening, freeing, exciting, painful, just strange. But all of this was in a good way I assure you! I had been telling myself since last summer that I would run. Just get out there and move...fast. Just to see how it felt and to show myself that my body could handle it after all these years. So when I did finally do it,it was like a whole new world opened.
Now I don't think I will ever be a die-hard runner, up everyday with the sun and our the door. I am just not into it that much. I still love my yoga and weight lifting much much more! However I am so proud and happy with myself that I did run, I did try it, and I know now that I can incorporate it more to switch up my routine every once in a while.
My forays into running came at a very opportune time as well. I was recently sent a FlipBelt to review. What I like to call, the modern "fanny-pack!" FlipBelt is what they call "The World's Best Running & Fitness Belt", able to safely and effectively keep your phone, keys, iPod, hair ties, money, etc. snug and stowed away keeping your hands free.
No bulk, no bounce, sleek, moisture-wicking, machine washable, and comfy! All with easy access to what you need, but only when you need it. When I went out for my run that first time, I had no idea where I would put my house key and phone. I needed both with me, but didn't have pockets on my shorts. In came the Black FlipBelt I ordered!
The belt has opening around the inside that you can slip in your phone and other goodies you need with you. I put in my big bulky Driod and it fit perfectly! It was comfortable to wear too. I didn't feel my phone smashing into my waist and the belt was snug and stayed up (I got an XS obviously and it was a perfect fit). I was worried that my phone would fall out, but it didn't. It didn't move at all! After you put in your belongings, you flip the belt over and the openings are then against your body keeping everything extra secure.
And it's not just one pocket. You can fit things in all around the belt, so that means you can "carry" a lot without actually carrying anything! Pretty good deal!
I was also nervous about my key. It is so small and I felt like it would slip out of one of the slots no matter hat. Again, I was wrong. The material is so "slip" resistant and snug that it hold everything. Plus, it has a little key hook with I put my key on and then put that whole thing in a slot for extra safety. It worked since...obviously I was able to get back in my house 😉
Not only is FlipBelt for running though. It is perfect for weight lifting in the gym, biking, even yoga. It is so sleek and slim that you can wear it where ever, when ever. It comes in 10 different colors too, so you can get one to match each outfit 😉 I also got a free water-resistant bag to keep it in! This is just such a cool idea and a total fitness gadget essential!

Glad that your weekend was mostly relaxing! I think Labor Day comes at a point in the year when we really need a break.
I use a similar style belt for biking and other activities to keep my insulin pump with me.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
I hope you had a beautiful weekend!
Well, that is super important to have! These belts are life savors!

I love that you're trying out running! I think my first run was the same way - I hurt and felt weird, but I was so energized and excited and wanted to see if I could run farther next time. It's definitely addicting! It sounds like things are going better at college! It's always tough moving somewhere new but it sounds like you're getting a good routine down. Good luck this week!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Nah! I am no where near getting a routine and settled down yet! I am still having a rough time everyday :/
I really want to go home....but no one will pick me up!
(Maybe I should utilize that FlipBelt and run home 😉 Haha!)

This flip belt sounds like an excellent solution to all my running problems! I'm always pulling money out of my bra for smoothies at the end of my runs... Have fun running in D.C.!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Haha, bras are the ultimate "holders"! 😉

I would run by the White House all the time if I lived in DC. So many awesome sights there! Glad your Sunday was good 🙂
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
I really do have to wait a few more weeks to run in the city though....I can't get there at 5am and it is way to hot by the afternoon now. :/ But I'd rather the heat stay so I'm not complaining 😉
