Friday Finisher 7/18/14

Published: Jul 18, 2014 · Modified: Jan 8, 2020 by Rebecca Pytell · This post may contain affiliate links.

So this was a pretty "chill" week. Nothing much happened, just spending time doing nothing on these lazy summer days. I do love the fact that I have time to get in quality workouts, yoga, read, and cook up something new almost everyday. (The recipes I have in my planner are exploding! I can't wait to share them all! That includes some baking too...I know...who am I?). My mom and I have been going on short walks a lot which I love. It's a nice way to get outside in the fresh air and just breathe and talk. Nothing else very interesting though around here. I'm not sure how I feel about that either. I like my days but I also don't want to regret anything this summer.

However, the end of next week will be interesting. Operation Take-Out-Wisdom-Teeth commences at 8:45am on Thursday morning. My consolation is combined with the surgery, so I will be going in the first time on Thursday with 4 wisdom teeth deep down in my gums, and walking out (drugged and dazed) with 4 holes in my gums. And because I consider myself a badass with a high pain tolerance, so far I do not plan on taking any hardcore drugs. Maybe a Tylonal or Advil if I must. But I haven't taken a pain medicine in years and I really don't plan to. This is also going to be interesting eating wise. Lets just say I will be making many smoothies, light fish, soft veggies, and pancakes all weekend. O and no straw either 🙁 If you use a straw right after you get your teeth out, you can develop "dry socket" which dislodges the blood clot that forms in the hole to heal. Yea, gross and bad. So no straw for this girl. Smoothie drinking is not going to be fun then, I barely like smoothies to begin with...and no straw! O the humanity!

Nutty Chocolate Chip Granola Bars. Totally yummy!

Paleo Watermelon Berry Smoothie. This just looks so refreshing!

Super Greens Pesto. Packed with so many greens!

Chickpea Flour Flatbread with New Potatoes +Fresh Basil. Omg...you have to check out this blog! I was on it for hours mesmerized by the beauty of it all!

A few things I loved about my week or am grateful for:

+ I officially own the domain strengthandsunshine.com! I also bought a 36 month plan with Host Gator! This is actually going to happen! I am so excited! This weekend I will be buying Genesis and a theme for the blog and then integrating. I am working with an awesome, lovely, and just so kind designer who is helping me out for free! This is a win-win for both of us and I am so excited to see how everything comes out in the end!

+ I am finally a "full-time" student at GW! I got my 14 credits, but I have a huge scheduling/time conflict on my Fridays...But I will just deal with it when school starts, for now I don't want to think about it. I'm getting more and more less excited for school with each passing day. :/

+ This is super random, but it's something I have totally loved this week. Freezing my bars! I freeze my ALT bars, Larabars, Kinds bars (I found a few that are soy-free finally!), and other random ones! It is great! They taste 1000x better, give it a try! And try not to break your jar while your at it 😉

So tell me:

+ What have you been filling your summer days with?

+ Do you really like smoothies? I pretend I do, but really I don't. I know...a huge blogger sin, but I really only want one maybe once or twice a week. I do enjoy a quality smoothie, but they just aren't really my "thing." Iced coffee on the other hand...that has become my thing 😉

+ Weekend plans, tell me you weekend plans! Me? Nothing, nothing at all! 😉

I enjoy walks with my mom as often as possible too. 🙂 We try to go in the afternoons after she gets off work and on the weekdays when possible. Good luck with your wisdom teeth! I had mine out years ago, and I had no problems. This is coming from a girl with some serious deep teeth roots too! I ate lots of puddings, mashed peas (I love peas), and applesauce. Ha! It's not so bad though.

I had my wisdom teeth out when I was 14 and I didn’t take any heavy meds. Motrin got it done for me, you should be tough enough to handle it. I’m not a huge fan of smoothies either, but popsicles, yes, please! I put fruit like berries in them and they’re very tasty.

Celiac Disease is NOT a food allergy 🚫🍞 So Celiac Disease is NOT a food allergy 🚫🍞

So many people still confuse the two, but it’s an autoimmune disease, not an allergy. That means gluten doesn’t cause an immediate allergic reaction resulting in hives or swelling…it causes your immune system to attack your small intestine longterm.

This distinction matters because:
👉 There’s no medication or quick fix
👉 The only treatment is a strict, lifelong gluten-free diet
👉 Mislabeling it as an “allergy” is scientifically incorrect. There is no such thing as a gluten allergy.

Swipe through to learn why the distinction is inportant and why accurate education and awareness is paramount. Let’s set the record straight and not mislabel our disease when speaking about it. 💛
