Friday Finisher 8/29/14

Published: Aug 29, 2014 · Modified: Jan 3, 2020 by Rebecca Pytell · This post may contain affiliate links.

So...I know, I only posted twice this week. I just really didn't feel like blogging. To much going on and I just needed a break. I've needed a break for a while, so posts will be fewer as we go forward. However, there will be recipes yet again! I can't believe I left you hanging without one this week! I am terribly sorry 😉

And how did the first week of classes go you ask? Well Monday I was late to Microeconomics (I thought it started at a different time and then I got stuck in rush-hour traffic), Arabic is horrifying and we had homework the first night (but I didn't get the textbook or online access yet...).

Tuesday I made sure to leave extra early for my 8am World History class (left too early though and decided to go to Starbucks!). Then it was back to my campus for my University Writing class (we are going to be participating in a blog as an extra grade! Haha, well that's easy). Then I had lunch and hoped back on the bus to the city for my Arabic again. (Still no book, but a kind student sent me a link to some free PDF version of the text so I could at least read the lesson.)

Wednesday I made sure to leave super early for that economics class. Of course I was 2 hours early so I sipped an iced green tea outside Starbucks and then went into the lecture hall to edit some blog photos for next week. (I bet the girl behind me thought I was crazy going through 100s of pictures of mug cakes!). Then I did some work until I went to Arabic (I'm pretty sure I'm going to drop the class at this point), a ton of errands and running around. I checked out the main campus gym (it was so hot! Why don't they have the AC on?), ate at wonderful Whole Foods, did some homework, and then talked to my mom.

Thursday I woke-up with about 16 to 20 bug bites all over my legs (mostly the knees down). I started the process of switching out of Arabic and into a Spanish class (hopefully). I really like my University Writing class (it is on villianity and how you define it). I am one of the most active students in the class (normally I am shy and never raise my hand, but not here!) I think I totally bombed my microeconomics math assessment test during my discussion class...

And here we are on Friday (TGIF!). I just have my UW class from 10am to 10:50. A much needed easy end to the week. I am also hoping the cable guys will be able to fix the cable in my room. I haven't seen/watched a TV in a very long time. I miss CNN...and the Food Network...They are scheduled to come at 5pm and I will be waiting!

Negative - didn't work out a single night during the week! Work got the best of me, and I was wiped at the end of the days. Doesn't leave me feeling good.

Positive- Although it's busy, I absolutely love my job, and feel blessed to have it!

No worries about posting less - life happens, especially when you're a college student! First weeks are always rough, no matter what grade you're in. I'll be going through the same thing next week! YIKES! And I feel ya on the language issues, too. I initially planned on minoring in Spanish and I tested into Intermediate II. Well, within two weeks, I was stressed, confused and totally not in love with the language any more. Even though it killed me to do it, I dropped it and was so much happier (and, because of my test scores, got my language requirement done!).

My favorite class my first year at college was super hard to pick, and I'm tied between Politics of Race, Class & Gender (I'm minoring in Women's Studies) and Creative Writing. Both so good! 🙂

I'm just not a language person but I have yo get a 3 year proficiency for my School's requirements :/ Bad stuff...
Why women's studies!? I'm always curious why people study that!

Yep, I think people are either good at language or not so good...

I had never heard of Women's Studies before, but after I took Politics of Race, Class and Gender, I wanted to try to work in some more politics into my Writing Major. My school doesn't have a politics minor, so I looked into Women's Studies. I like it because it has literary classes (that also count for my major - score!), politics, nutrition and lots of other interesting studies 🙂

I definitely enjoyed the In Defense of Pumpkin Spice Lattes post! It's true, everything is alright in moderation and worrying about every little thing we eat too much is unhealthy in itself. Jeez...sounds like a kinda rough start to college for ya, but that is pretty normal for most college kids. I had a tough time myself! Arabic? Yup, I'd switch that to Spanish too. Haha! I wish you the best and great success in your first year of college! 🙂

Hey girl! Trust me, I know how you're feeling with the emotional up's and downs. But week 1 is done and you get an extra day to chill on Monday (assuming your Labor Day is free :)) I always get to class early...sometimes too early. I end up working on other homework or reading. My favorite class this semester is Sports Ethics.

Yea, I am super early to all of them, but I'm sure that will be good once I do have homework and things to study! It also just gives you sometime to review your notes from last class too! (And answer emails and blog comments!)

      Sports Ethics?! That sounds interesting!

I am so impressed that you manage to get to class TWO hours early! You crazy lady! Glad you got to edit photos and enjoy a drink though. My two favourite college classes were definitely a class I took on art and war, and another on identities and belonging. The latter was a bit of a mixture between psychology/anthropology/sociology/politics, but my professor was amazing! I think who you get as a professor makes a huge difference. Have a great weekend!

Looks like you have some great links in here...I need to check some of them out. I can't even imagine how hard Arabic would be to learn. My kids have all taken Spanish and my daughter just added French. I was kind of chuckling when I saw your running link...I am a long time runner...ran in high school and college and at this point it is 30 years +...I guess I just dated myself...ouch. But I prefer to run with a friend. It makes it go by faster when we are talking and some days that's the only adult interaction I get other than my husband, since I work at home. 🙂
