Orange Hemp Seed Granola

Published: Oct 29, 2014 · Modified: Jul 23, 2017 by Rebecca Pytell · This post may contain affiliate links.

This is one of 5 granola recipes I have in my "to-post" folder. It was the last granola I made before I had to leave the nest. I wanted to get pretty creative here and go out with a granola-bang. So what's a flavor or granola you don't see very often? Orange. That's right. Oranges themselves are pretty awesome. Sweet, tangy, juicy. I like them, but they don't necessarily do much for my reflux. However, in granola you don't get the full acid effect. Just the taste, so I'll take it!

Now, besides the orange, I used the ever-forgotten hemp seed! I always have a bag in the fridge, but always forget they're there! Then I use them and remember how lovely they taste and how much nutrition they pack! Per serving (30g) you get 10g protein, 10g omega 3 & 6, 13g healthy fats, all for 170 calories! A little seed plant-based powder house! The great forgotten complete vegan protein source in my option. Hemp also makes a lovely protein powder which I always have on hand! Totally clean, and only 1 source.

But wait! There is more! I also used my tried-and-true #1, always forever favorite cereal in this lovely granola! Mesa Sunrise! Flakes of nutrition goodness made from corn, flax, quinoa, buckwheat, and amaranth! Let's just say this granola is going to kick-start your day with a powerful protein punch (and a little zing from out friend the orange!)

Orange Hemp Seed Granola

Orange Hemp Seed Granola | Strength and Sunshine #glutenfree #vegan @RebeccaGF666

Ingredients: (serves 6)

+ 1 ½ Cups Gluten-Free Rolled Oats

+ 2 Cups Mesa Sunrise Cereal

+ ½ Cup Puffed Millet

+ ⅓ Cup Hemp Seeds

+ 20g (1 Cup) Freeze-Dried Orange

+ Zest From 1 Orange

+ ¼ Cup Fresh Orange Juice (from the one you zested)

+ ¼ Tsp Orange Extract

+ 14 Drops Orange Stevia

Directions:

+ In a large mixing bowl, combine the oats, cereal, millet, hemp seeds, and stir. Then add the orange zest and juice, extract, and stevia. Stir again.

+ Preheat the oven to 320°F. Line a baking sheet with lightly oiled foil or parchment paper. Spread your granola evenly out on the sheet.

+ Bake for 30 minutes, stirring every 10. For the last 10 minutes, add in the freeze-dried oranges (otherwise they will burn if you add them in to early).

+ Remove and let cool. Store in a closed glass jar.

I love granola! Orange hempseed granola sounds completely awesome! A nice to change from the regular vanilla, cinnamon sort. I love hempseeds too, and like you tend to forget they're in the fridge. They seen to get pushed back behind something, and then one day it's like, "Hey, hempseeds!" I love adding them into my baked goods, my homemade granolas, and into my smoothies.

All your granolas are so beautiful! I'd like to TRY hemp seeds, no idea what to use them for, AND my favorite cereal, I used to wax and wane on types when I was younger, frosted flakes were a treat for me since I wasn't ever allowed sugary cereal, but i liked rice crispies, rice chex, and I used to love this vanilla sunrise crunch stuff! Now i don't eat it really

Put them in ANYTHING! Granola, cereal, smoothies, sauces, grains, topping for oatmeal...or sweet potatoes 😉

I loved Frosted Flakes! One of the last cereals I ate before I had to go GF 🙁
      (Vanilla Sunrise is awesome!)

Literally, what are we doing if we’re not combining the two coziest quick breads into one? Naturally moist and sweet from real pumpkin and ripe bananas, which makes it perfect for a gluten-free recipe that needs extra moisture and an eggless recipe since pumpkin and banana are OG vegan egg replacements! This gluten-free pumpkin banana bread is a blank slate for any cozy add-ins you can dream of, but its simplicity is what makes it shine on its own! 😋🙌

Celiac Disease is NOT a food allergy 🚫🍞 So Celiac Disease is NOT a food allergy 🚫🍞

So many people still confuse the two, but it’s an autoimmune disease, not an allergy. That means gluten doesn’t cause an immediate allergic reaction resulting in hives or swelling…it causes your immune system to attack your small intestine longterm.

This distinction matters because:
👉 There’s no medication or quick fix
👉 The only treatment is a strict, lifelong gluten-free diet
👉 Mislabeling it as an “allergy” is scientifically incorrect. There is no such thing as a gluten allergy.

Swipe through to learn why the distinction is inportant and why accurate education and awareness is paramount. Let’s set the record straight and not mislabel our disease when speaking about it. 💛
