You all know that 2017 was not a kind year for me (at least, since that last week of February). A humbling experience in just how much a body, a person can go through. Needless to say, the holidays tend to (are known to) be difficult for people with chronic conditions, in periods of turmoil in their lives, etc. It's definitely not easy and nor is there actually a "physical gift" that can ever heal chronic pains. I'm sure loved ones wish a magic cure could be found for their ailing or struggling family members, and I wish there was too. I don't even have a "Christmas List" this year, it feels wrong in some way (we can't always ask for medical bills to go away or a lifetime supply of Zofran (kidding)!). Our loved ones already to so much for us, but if you are a loved one looking to give a little something special here are 25 gift ideas for someone living with a chronic illness to jumpstart your thinking process.

A nice warm pair of cozy socks and a pair of fluffy soft slippers to keep those toes toasty.

A coffee mug with a cute mug sweater to bring ALL the smiles with each sip of coffee, tea, or instant hot cocoa!

There is nothing more calming than slipping on a warm and cozy robe after a nice hot shower.

Candles! When everything else seems out of control, candles are the way to go. (Kid you not, Walmart's Mainstay candles are THE best).

I'm sure you've heard the benefits of weighted blankets. A perfect way to ensure a "drug-free" restful night's sleep.

On those days when the body just needs to rest in bed, a recliner pillow is perfect.

Besides candles, breathing in some healing essential oils from a diffuser is perfect as well!

Soothing lotions are perfect from relieving muscle pains and aches to soothing and softening the tired body.

The cozy sweater vibes are so strong and even more so in the winter to keep the body warm and comfortable!

Socks, slippers, robes, sweaters, but don't forget comfortable joggers or sweats too!
Books are perfect for relaxing and escaping reality for a few moments in the story and characters lives.

Nothing does a body better than getting on the yoga mat. From power flows to simply sitting in meditation, a yoga mat is perfect for any practice and ability.

Some great wireless speakers for playing music to relax to, escape in, or some feel-good singing (when no one else is around!)

Plants and nature are so healing, but some no-care, no-fuss plants are perfect (even with a black-thumb!)

A quality slow cooker, because easy, dump-and-go, delicious meals (that make the home smell a-mazing) are everything!

A perfect cozy, but simple for everyday wear, beanie! Keeping your head warm is the actual way to stay warm, plus you don't have to worry about what your hair looks like 😉

Having a quality heating pad is a must. Something large enough to actually wrap around the body; such a welcome luxury (heated blankets are great too)!

Depending on your recipient, some relaxing, creative, soothing outlets and activities are wonderful to have: painting, puzzles, perhaps some woodburning?

Give them the gift of a lovely little spa treatment with a super high-tech foot spa machine!

You know how I feel about standing up, but some days I need more sitting down. A Varidesk is perfect for those fluctuations in what the body needs.

Soaking the body in the tub can be just what the muscles need to relax (as well as the mind!) A bathtub tray/caddy is perfect for a long soothing soak.

If they're ready for it and it's been talked about, a pet (therapy, emotional support, or not) can make a world of difference. (This is my own *hint, hint* to family)

A grocery delivery service subscription, like Peapod, AmazonFresh, Thrive Market, or specialty like Zaycon Fresh, so they can order their groceries right from the comfort of their own home.

Speaking of subscriptions, a fun box every month can be a great little surprise to receive and look forward too. Try Love With Food (perfect for gluten-free foodies!)

Last, but the most important "gift/gesture" you can give someone living with a chronic illness, depression, grief, etc. is YOUR patience, understanding, love, encouragement, space (sometimes), help (when needed), sometimes simple silence or an ear for them to dump their emotions on, or when they need a gentle push to get out of their own head and take them on a fun adventure away from it all. Being their support and someone they know they can count on is a priceless gift you can give them, year-round.

So tell me:

+ What's on your wishlist this year?

These are some good ideas - my RA (and the meds to treat it) leads to frequent insomnia. I've been thinking about one of those weighted blankets for awhile!

As someone who suffers from chronic migraines, this is a great list. Maybe not the candles for me, but everything else is thoughtful.
Sending you happy healing thoughts this holiday season!
