Introducing The Freedom Feature

Published: Jan 26, 2016 · Modified: Jul 23, 2017 by Rebecca Pytell · This post may contain affiliate links.

Today I'm introducing the Freedom Feature! A new series I will be bringing to the blog, sharing our stories to food allergy freedom!

The Freedom Feature | Strength and Sunshine @RebeccaGF666 Sharing our stories to food allergy freedom

"What is the Freedom Feature? The Freedom Feature is a new Strength and Sunshine blog series started to connect the celiac disease and food allergy/intolerance community together by sharing our stories to food freedom. From our beginning struggles to striving after a diagnosis, we can all relate and help each other out by sharing what we've learned and our unique personal journeys.

From interviews with respected celiac and food allergy bloggers, open dialogues with allergy-friendly brands and companies, to YOU, my dear reader. You can submit your own personal story from struggle to freedom right here on this page and have a chance to have your story shared on the Freedom Feature. Whether you have Celiac Disease, a top 8 food allergy, or lactose intolerance, it doesn't matter, you're part of the community and can share your story!

Simple use the forum on the "Submit Your Story" page under the Gluten-Free menu tab above to write your story. Share your story however you'd like. Start from the beginning, pre-diagnosis and bring us through what it took to get you to freedom. Be as personal as you'd like, include photos, etc. After you submit, I will read every word and with my approval, I will email you to let you know when your feature day will be. You don't have to be a blogger or celebrity; you don't even have to be the one with the allergy. If a close loved one developed celiac or an allergy and that changed the way your family functions, you can share that to!

If you'd rather email your story and pictures you can do that too. Make sure the subject is FREEDOM FEATURE and email to strengthandsunshine @ gmail.com

Now take some time, craft your story, submit, and share! You never know who you'll be helping with your freedom wisdom!"

Are you excited? I am! I can't wait to roll out this new series in the coming weeks. I'm still ironing out some back-end details, but I want to start gathering stories and interviews as soon as possible since that IS the content for the Freedom Feature!  So if your a celiac of food allergy blogger who would like to be interviewed, email me. If you're a reader with a wonderful story you'd like to share, use the forum, and if you know someone how who has a fantastic freedom story to share, let them know that now they can!

So tell me:

+ Are you excited? Do you have any blogger/brand/company requests you'd like to see on the Freedom Feature?

Help me spread the word by sharing this post on Facebook, Twitter, and with allergy foodie you know!

This is great, Rebecca! Sometimes people without allergies, myself included, just don't realize how serious they can be. My husband has a pretty severe allergy to shellfish and fish so we are very careful to avoid any possibility of cross contamination.

It's an allergy or sensitivity (depending on severity) to certain proteins found in natural latex. Problem foods include eggs, bananas, avocados, kiwi, and many, many more.

Celiac Disease is NOT a food allergy 🚫🍞 So Celiac Disease is NOT a food allergy 🚫🍞

So many people still confuse the two, but it’s an autoimmune disease, not an allergy. That means gluten doesn’t cause an immediate allergic reaction resulting in hives or swelling…it causes your immune system to attack your small intestine longterm.

This distinction matters because:
👉 There’s no medication or quick fix
👉 The only treatment is a strict, lifelong gluten-free diet
👉 Mislabeling it as an “allergy” is scientifically incorrect. There is no such thing as a gluten allergy.

Swipe through to learn why the distinction is inportant and why accurate education and awareness is paramount. Let’s set the record straight and not mislabel our disease when speaking about it. 💛
