Scenes From Family Weekend

Published: Oct 20, 2014 · Modified: Jul 23, 2017 by Rebecca Pytell · This post may contain affiliate links.

I don't feel like writing today, so I'll just share some pictures from the weekend! My mom came down with my grandparents and I got to spend the whole weekend with them. I didn't take a lot of pictures (to much of a hassle), but I did take a few. I wish we had more time together, but really there is only a month and a half before winter break and the first semester ends! The real count down is on!

The Capitol Building | Strength and Sunshine

The Capitol Building | Strength and Sunshine

Really sad, but they are going to be doing construction on the beautiful capitol building for the next 2-3 years 🙁 My mom and I finally went inside though! Every other time we tried, we couldn't because we had water bottles, etc. This time we planned ahead, and got in! We even took the underground tunnel over to the Library of Congress where I got my official Readers card! Now I can go in and study in the reading rooms they have! I feel so special 😉

Sweetgreen | Strength and Sunshine

Lots of Sweetgreen salads!

Starbucks | Strength and Sunshine

Lots of Starbucks...of course! I got a Whole Foods coffee (organic French dark roast) on Sunday for the first time too. It was good, but I still think Starbucks beats it all!

Georgetown Cupcake | Strength and Sunshine

My mom HAD to get her Georgetown cupcake before she left! Haha 😛

Mom and Rebecca | Strength and Sunshine

We also stopped by the White House. Well, it's the first time I've been over there since all the "break-ins." Now security is amped up and new gates are built. You can't go right up anymore 🙁 More sad things. But we still got a new White House selfie!

Besides all that, I also am STOCKED up on food! My mom brought down a ton of stuff (including plantains/potatoes, and my waffle maker!), I made my mom buy me groceries at Whole Foods AND Trader Joes! (I am no longer a TJs virgin!) It was so much fun to go in there! We also went out to dinner with my grandparents to the Daily Grill on Saturday night. I got the wonderful grilled Idaho Trout. Just as good as last time!

I cried when I saw my mom and when I got on the shuttle and left her 🙁 But I will be seeing her again soon! And I'll get to see my dad and brother! It is so hard not seeing your family for months at a time :/ I don't like it.

I hope you all had a marvelous weekend and I will see you here tomorrow for a yummy recipe!

So tell me:

+ How was your weekend? What did you do?

+ What is your favorite thing to get at Trader Joes (or Whole Foods!)?

So glad you had a nice visit with your mom =) I live pretty far from my mom and it's tough, but always so great when I do get to see her and spend time with her.
I'm going to D.C. next weekend actually - first time. I'm pretty excited about it!

I would love to! But I'm only up for a day and a half (short trip!) and my friend filled our schedule to the absolute max. Next time for sure =)

I look forward to my weekly trip to Whole Foods. Is it crazy that I like to grocery shop in general 🙂 DC is one of our favorite family vacation destinations.

I usually stay in the campus area so yea, every time I actually venture to the interesting parts of the city I feel like I'm back on vacation being a tourist!

I love Trader Joe's! We're hooked on their salsas and hummus. They also have really good chile lime chicken burgers that my mom can have so we stock up on those before she visits.

I am so happy you had a wonderful visit with your mom and grandparents. Going away to school and not seeing my parents on a regular basis is one of the hardest parts of college, but it makes the time I spend with them so much more special. I am so happy you finally got to experience Trader Joe's! Is it not the best?!!

P.S. I love your maxi skirt!

Haha! Trader Joes is awesome 😉 All the produce looked so perfect too!

Thank you!!!!! I think it was from Macy's (years ago though!)

I love Trader Joe's! They have the cheapest organic tofu and good nut butters. And all of their desserts and chocolate-covered stuff are also great 🙂

Also I ended up getting a HP 15-g013cl Laptop from Costco because it was a good deal and uses Windows 7. Reviews say it's slow but I haven't really noticed that.

Sounds like a wonderful weekend with your mom & grandparents! I was in DC last September w/ my husband and we had to stop at Georgetown Cupcakes to bring some back to our kids 🙂 So many favorite things to buy at TJs...organic tomato soup, packaged beets, NUTS!, CHEESE!, organic coffee, and more!

Great pics! You and your mom are both beautiful, and I can tell you are very close. I look forward to a day like that with my little 6-year old daughter, but am enjoying the "now" with her, and since we're already close, it makes the future that much more exciting to think about.
And the crying…our 3rd son just began college this past fall too. He's come home once and I couldn't help it - I cried terribly on the morning he left to go back to school!
Stay close to your mom! Thanks for sharing your lovely pics ~ best wishes for the rest of the semester! Have a beautiful week!
