With food allergies and autoimmune diseases, keeping the body safe and happy is the ultimate goal. Finding safe pure supplements can provide some healthy insurance for keeping your inner-workings at their optimal best!
Living with autoimmune diseases can be tough and you never know how you'll feel day-to-day. But you can take some steps to make sure you're keeping yourself on the right track as best you can. Diet should always be number. Learn what works for your body, and stick to it. Make sure you eat as well-rounded and balanced as you can, even with your restrictions. Get as much physical activity as possible as well. Fuel + movements + sleep too! You need to get those snooze hours so your body can heal and repair and be batter at functioning with its autoimmunity. With all that said, you may consider taking a few supplements and vitamins to give you a little extra boost and insurance. I'm not big on taking tons of supplements, but I do have a few favorites I always take or have taken in the past, while trying to heal some of my autoimmune conditions.
With that said, finding supplements you can trust and are pure and safe can be difficult sometimes. With such a sensitive microbiome, the supplements and vitamins I take must be free from allergens, hypoallergenic, non-gmo, nothing artificial, no fillers, nothing scary. A brand I personally trust is Pure Encapsulations. They put a check by all my requirements and I feel safe taking them as a supplement to my diet. What makes Pure Encapsulations even more trusted is that they are only available through your participating healthcare practitioner. With your personal doctors okay, you'll know you are receiving the best and only what you need.
For me, I focus on supplements for good gut health. Some of my favorites and standbys have become part of my daily regimen and I've been taking for years.
1. Probiotics - It's essential to get as much good bacteria in my gut as I can. I never go a day without my probiotic supplement. The good bacteria my gut needs for healthy, happy functioning!
2. L-Glutamine - I started taking this because it helps with tissue repair, gastrointestinal tract support, and for natural defense system function. Healing my gut is still a work in progress and any little "extra" that may benefit, I'll gladly try!
3. Magnesium- This helps the gut use enzymes to break down foods and digest. Easier digestion is another great thing for my body. It keeps things going and moving along through the digestive track!
4. Vitamin D - Along with the calcium supplement I take that has Vitamin D in it, I also take a pure vitamin D-3 supplement as well. It's essential for absorption and muscle function!
5. Slippery Elm - I'm not currently taking this, but it's actually one of my favorite supplements (I ran out and haven't gotten anymore). Slippery Elm is for soothing the digestive track and reduces inflammation. It's really great for those with autoimmune disease like Celiac, IBD, or even IBS.
6. B Vitamins - Personally I only take a small amount of extra B-12. However, B vitamins are said to be good for helping the body form red blood cells and extracting the energy from the food we eat more easily.
I'm always willing to try something that is pure and safe to help my digestion in any way. We all have different conditions, lifestyles, needs, etc., so finding a company like Pure Encapsulations who makes just about every supplement and vitamin you could ever need is a wonderful thing! If I'm going to take a supplement to help heal my digestion, I want one that won't cause it more problems because of how it's manufactured and produced!
So tell me:
+ Do you have any favorite supplements you take for digestion?
+ What do you look for in your supplement brands?

I always hear about getting your probiotics for a happy tummy, but it's always in yogurt commercials. I never thought of taking a supplement to getting them. I think I'll have to look into trying this. I know for some people getting extra fiber upsets the tummy, but I found that taking fiber supplements (in addition to my natural fiber intake) seems to help my tummy function better. Thanks for sharing this list. I'm going to do some more research on some of these.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
I really recommend probiotics for everyone, not just those with health issues!
Audrey @ Unconventional Baker
It's always a comfort to find a brand you can trust, isn't it? And gosh, what don't I take for digestion... 😉
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Hahaha, exactly 😉

I'm always sceptical about supplements. You read that they are a must and then you read they are a waste of time. I like the idea of a pure supplement. Thanks for your post which was very informative about what each of the supplements provide.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Thanks.
Phyllis
I've just started taking a bunch of supplements. I never was really concerned but now I'm getting older and finding them to be a necessary part of life. I'm still learning about probiotics.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Thanks great!

Thanks.

Great information! It's so important to support the gut when it comes to healing 🙂 I also supplement with probiotics, magnesium, grass-fed gelatin and collagen + Betaine HCL.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Probiotics are a must!
Evi @ greenevi
Luckily I have no tummy problems in general. But when I get sick or just feel a bit down or ate too much trash, probiotics are my best friends! They do serious good to my body 🙂
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Lucky girl 😉 You can never go wrong with loading up on probiotics!
Amberjane
I took probiotics after I had my appendix removed - it was the best thing I did!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
They really are important!

I too rely mostly on diet for my healthcare, but I recently got sick and while I asked for no antibiotics my throat was so swollen I was afraid. It certainly didn't help my already sensitive gluten-sensitive belly, although I only got one shot. I have been intending on getting back into magnesium supplementation anyway but I need to look into slippery elm and probiotics as well. I also totally agree with the woman who mentioned getting a blood test. I love the idea of this brand of supplements sounds perfect! Found you on SITS!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Probiotics are something I think everyone should take! Good bacteria is a must for a healthy gut and so safe!

Hi Rebeca,
Good article.
If you have quite a few food allergies or any autoimmune disease it can be crucial that you take certain supplements .
I totally agree with you about supplements - there are so many of them that have toxic fillers and additives in them. I use some of the Pure Encapsulations & I also Thorne brand. You can purchase both of these brands from Pure Formulas which you can find on line.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Awesome!

Wow. Great list! Thanks for sharing!! I SHOULD take more (better) supplements but I often forget. Vitamin D is a MUST for me in the winter.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Vitamin D is a must for most Americans ALL year!
Kristy @ Southern In Law
I only take one supplement (magnesium) after having a HORRIBLE experience with them in the past. A few years ago I lost all feeling in my arms and legs and doctors thought the worst, searching for a brain tumour, only to find that I actually had a B6 toxicity that was causing sensory neuropathy! Apparently my body doesn't just flush out b vitamins like everyone else!
Now I always recommend my family and friends get blood work to find out what they actually need first (and don't listen to shonky doctors who say otherwise, ha!)
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Yea, that's why things like VITAMINS, specifically B vitamins, should never be taken in excess and always by your dr. People can really screw up that way.
Emily
I take l-glutamine and a probiotic everyday and they work wonders! Now I'm tempted to add magnesium to my stack 🙂 Thanks girlie!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Magnesium is great! I've been loving it!
Elaine Hodges
Great info. Supplements can be hard on your tummy even if you don't have food allergies and autoimmune diseases.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
These are not.
Marina @ Parental Journey
Thanks for sharing - I think I need something like this, my tummy is not acting happy recently 🙁
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Talk to your doctor and try some out!
Paige @ Your Trainer Paige
I don't take any digestive supplements, but I do drink kombucha every day (more for the taste, but still love the benefits!)
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Haha! I'm all about fermented foods!
Christine @ Love, Life, Surf
I need to be better about taking supplements! But it always amazes me all the other stuff and fillers that are in supplements! I definitely will check these out.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
These are so great! Nothing weird, just as it should be!
Chrissa - Physical Kitchness
I'm DEFINITELY checking these supplements out. I am not well-versed in good supplements so this post helped me a ton girl. Thanks so much!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Glad to hear that!
Linda @ Veganosity
I've never heard of slippery elm. Interesting. I take vitamin D and B-12 everyday and a turmeric supplement every other day.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
I love slippery elm! (The name is the best) 😛
Jessica @ Nutritioulicious
I was taking probiotics for a while, but haven't in quite some time. Also think I need to try magnesium for my migraines.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Magnesium is pretty great. I took it for awhile, stopped, but am now taking it again!
Alisa @ Go Dairy Free
I've been slacking on the probiotics lately and need to add L-glutamine back into my regimen!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
I love my probiotics!!! I've been trying to get my mom to start...I don't know why she's so resistant!
Ellen @ My Uncommon Everyday
I take magnesium and L-theanine. Both are excellent for calming down my typically-unhappy digestive system. Sure, it's still not perfect (stress especially kills me), but those help make it better.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Haha, mine's nowhere new perfect, but yea, giving it any extra love in a natural way is always good!
Iryna Bychkiv
Right now I'm taking prenatal vitamins together with Prenatal DHA. Other than that, sometimes I take probiotics. I just mostly look for organic ingredients.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Probiotics are essential!
Pili
Hi Rebecca! We have always aloe drink at home, it helps a lot our digestive system.
Hugs
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
I've never tried aloe!
Pili
It's like a miracle!! But aloe without aloin 😉
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
What's aloin?
Pili
It's a "toxic" substance aloe has. That's why aloe must be processed, you just can't squeeze one and drink it
Jill
I actually do take numbers 1 through 4 but I've never heard of slippery elm! I'm going to look into this for my IBS!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
I adore slippery elm! I took 2 400mg capsules (800mg) in the morning when I woke up!
Harriet Emily
This has so much great information for tummy health! Thank you for sharing Rebecca 🙂 I always make sure I take my vitamin B in the morning!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Woohoo! Thanks dear!
Annmarie
This looks great! I don't take a lot of supplements but I'm all for anything to help with gut health!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
I think we all are!
Natalie | Feasting on Fruit
As much as i wish I could say i don't take anything, I do. Probiotics, B-12, and then I'm always experiencing with different things to help the tummy 🙂
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
One thing I'll never take...a multivitamin! Such a waste and so ineffective! Just eat food 😛
Michele @ paleorunningmomma
This looks great - I'm a fan of anything to support gut health 🙂
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
I know you are 😉
