Give your Orange Julius a grown-up boozy twist! A quick and easy 4-Ingredient Orange Julius Cocktail recipe that's gluten-free, vegan, and makes for a perfect frozen, creamy, and fruit treat! A sippable Creamsicle for adults only!
Have y'all ever had an Orange Julius? The actual branded beverage/treat that stemmed off of Dairy Queen? Basically it is a frozen "smoothie" type of treat that's a mixture of orange juice concentrate, milk, sugar, vanilla, and a whole bunch of scary things if it's not homemade. Like a delicious Creamsicle (also a branded frozen dessert). A Creamsicle I've had...vanilla ice cream coated in orange popsicle...so good! Never an actual "drinkable" Orange Julius.
An Orange Julius is probably the only time milk and acidic orange juice can be consumed in one fell swoop. That creamy, sweet, zesty, fruity combo is so delicious though. I did have a "prime opportunity" back in high school to try out vast quantities of Orange Julius; alas, I was years into being "free-from". The vast quantities came from my Latin club's monthly Orange Julius sales. You guys may remember way back (like first post "way back"), that I was a little Latin prodigy in high school. From Latin I through AP Latin, I was writing, translating, and speaking my little Latin heart out.
With being so immersed in 4 years of Latin, I was also a "member" of the Latin club (I rarely ever went to the meetings, haha!). I assume the reason my teacher was so into making Orange Julius the "sale item" was the "Julius" part (i.e. Julius Caesar). The thing that really grossed me out about the whole sale was that members of the club would bring in bottles of milk and leave them in the Latin room until the end of the school day when the sale would go on and my teacher would whip up Orange Julius down in the "Mall" (the hallway outside the cafeteria). Who knows how long that milk was kept out before it was brought to the classroom, let alone how it was kept cold IN the classroom for a full school day.
Maybe if I'd gone to a meeting or two I'd know how the ingredients were kept (haha!). Thankfully, now-a-days, I can happily whip up an Orange Julius that's safe, dairy-free, gluten-free, vegan, and perhaps a little more "grown-up". I'm keeping things simple with just some orange juice, ice, a touch of Swerve, and some Bom Bom Nilli Vanilli, which is an all natural gluten-free & vegan rum with an almond milk base. (Added, bonus, no one has to worry about refrigeration with with "milk"!)
I'm pretty sure (okay, I'm certain), THIS Orange Julius would have had me suspended from school, even though it is 100% more delicious (and healthier!). Now if there was a college Orange Julius sale...maybe (but that's still cutting it close to 21!). Maybe we'll just reserve these 4-Ingredient Orange Julius Cocktails for those girl's nights and weekend brunches. Some orange juice and what I like to call some "boozy vanilla spiked almond milk" seems to be a perfect little sip for brightening up any little occasion 😉

Julius Caesar may not have had access to this Nilli Vanilli when he whipped up some Orange Julius back in the day, but if he had, he'd probably been able to save himself on the Ides of March. He'd have had more friends, because everyone loves a little boozy, creamy, fruity Orange Julius! Now that I think about it, is "Julius" a play on the word "juice"? All that Latin blinds you from the obvious, I guess...
So tell me:
+ Have you ever had an Orange Julius?
+ What language did you take in high school? Latin...because we didn't have to actually "speak" in conversations like the other languages!

This looks amazing! I love the pina colada (non-boozy) version of a Julius that our mall's Orange Julius stand used to sell. I wonder if it's still on the menu. Anyway, I'll have to give this a try!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Any fruity frozen drink is so good!
Elise Ho
The hubby and I used to go to Orange Julius 2 to 3 times per week. Now I think about all the crazy amounts of sugar we were consuming. It is just so unhealthy.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Wow, that's...crazy.

I love how easy this is to make! 😀 I'd never heard of Bom Bom Nilli Vanilli, but this definitely sounds intriguing! (I'd probably go with the kid-friendly version though because me + any type of alcohol is a disaster. x_x )
I took Mandarin in high school, hahah. 😛
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Haha, I think my school offered a select few spots for Mandarin! Most kids took French Spanish or German...I took Latin 😉

Nicole | What She Ate
I saw this on Pinterest earlier and have been drooling ever since! I didn't have to take another language in high school (best school ever, right?!) Although, I did pick up some Spanish while backpacking in Central America. Mostly how to order food. Haha.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Thank you!
Haha, yes! So lucky!! It shouldn't be required! Not everyone is "good" with that kind of thought...but I guess that goes along the lines of not everyone being good with MATH either, haha!
Monica

Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Sure, Nicole.
Ashley
I actually worked for Dairy Queen/ Orange Julius in high school and a little after. Never did take a language in high school though which I regret! I’m very interested in trying this! I love orange Julius, but t always made me feel a little sick after, maybe this healthier version will be better on my stomach. Thanks for sharing!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Haha, that's awesome!
You weren't required to take a language? Wow! I wish I'd went to your school!
Italian Belly
I haven't had an Orange Julius since highschool! And that was a long time ago🤐
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
It must have been a high school thing by the looks of it 😉
Emily @ Pizza & Pull-Ups
Yum! This sounds so tasty! I took Spanish in high school and college.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Spanish was the worst!! We were forced to take that as the only language all through elementary and middle school!
Leslie
Yum, I love adult beverages now and again. I think anyone who doesn’t like a good orange Julius is dealing with something and can’t be bothered to try something delicious. I took French for 4 years, I loved it.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Hahaha, I like the way you think 😉
Kim
this looks yummy!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Thank you, Kim!
Jen
What a smart and fun twist on my favorite treat as a kid! This will be so fun for hot summer days! Can't wait to try!

These should be on the top of your to-do list then 😉
Ayanna @ 21FlavorsofSplendor
This sounds delicious! When I lived in California I loved Orange Julius and haven't had anything like it in years.
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
We need to change that! Something about the vanillay orange combo!
Kate K.
I used to love the DQ Orange Julius, but I don't think I could get one now because I don't trust what they put in them, haha! This sounds like a much better (and more adult) version. 🙂
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
This one will be just what you need 😉 I wish I could say I had had the "original"!
elsie
This looks absolutely great. Definitely trying it out. amazing photos too
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Thank you so much, Elsie!
amy
this looks fabulous, I'm definitely trying it out, thanks for providing dairy free and kid friendly!. (I didn't learn a language until after high school...then French, Italian, German, Spanish and a bit of Japanese 😝)
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine
Haha, well you are far ahead of me with language! It's just not my forte 😉 (But Latin was!)
InvisiblyMe
Oh wow, this sounds quite nice! I’ve never heard of an Orange Julius before, though I must admit I’ve never even heard of Bom Bom Nilli Vanilli! I got this smoothie/blender machine thing as a gift last year and it needs using! 🙂

Well, enjoy!
