An easy apple cinnamon granola full of the classic flavor combination! Perfect for breakfast or snacking all season long while keeping things healthy, gluten-free, and vegan!

Boy do I have a treat for you! As I mentioned on Monday, I made some granola over the weekend. This was my third time making homemade granola and my second recipe. I just winged it as usual using some new ingredients I had picked up at the grocery and low and behold, it came out pretty damn good! Granola is such a fun and easy snack or can be made into a very satisfying breakfast. When you make it yourself you control what you want to put in and just how healthy you want it. No sodium and processed sugar here! Just good old healthy whole grains, fats, and flavor. Nothing artificial, just real clean food, just what I like!

Apple Cinnamon Granola 4I am glad that I have been able to slowly add little amounts of oats back in to my diet (certified gluten-free of course). I still have to watch out though and can really only enjoy them about two times a week. But hey, that is better than nothing!

Apple Cinnamon Granola 8Yea, I know, you are looking at these photos like.."Wow, she stepped up her game!" Well at least I hope you are! Since my dad finally took out my AC, I have my favorite photo spot back! It is the natural light from that one window in my room which is on the wall that my bed is against. It can get a bit annoying because it isn't a hard surface, but I some how usually make it work. Of course I still have not the best lighting because of the early nights (damn you winter!), but in the summer that is my sweet spot!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ Cup Gluten-Free Rolled Oats
  • 1 ½ Cup Puffed Millet
  • 1 Cup (20g) No-Sugar Added Freeze-Dried Apple
  • 3 TB Hulled Hemp Seeds
  • 2 TB Milled Flax Seeds
  • ¼ Cup Unsweetened Apple Sauce
  • 2 Tsp Cinnamon
  • ¼ Tsp Nutmeg
  • ½ Tsp Pure Madagascar Bourbon Vanilla Extract
  • 6 Drops of Liquid Stevia

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the oats, millet, apple, cinnamon, nutmeg, hemp, and flax, then give it a good stir. Next add all the wet ingredients (apple sauce, vanilla, and stevia), give it another good mix so everything is evenly coated.
  3. Using a Silpat or line a baking sheet with foil and lightly wipe some oil or non-stick spray down. Then evenly spread the granola on the sheet for equal baking.
  4. Bake for 30 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes.
  5. Allow it to cool completely before you store it in am air tight container. Enjoy!

+ Do you like nutty granola or more fruity ones? I don't really mind, but I don't like ones that are filled with dried fruit. My one essential condition is that it is not too sweet, that is why I like making my own.

    I can't wait to try this one! Homemade granola makes such a nice gift, too... I bottle it up in mason jars, just like you did in the picture, and pass em out. 🙂 Also- great photography! I have yet to figure out food photography... it's a whole new set of photog skillz, it seems.

      It is the perfect gift! And so customizable 🙂 Thanks for the photo love! I am really proud of these pics, but the only reason they came out good was because I didn't make this dish to eat for dinner so I was in no rush with the photos and took my time, haha!

    I make my own granola once a week. This is my recipe. It is amazingly easy to make and way cheaper than buying it in the store. I am impressed with your blog – passed it along to a friend of mine who is really into working out and running.

    There's a reason why we have a "SIL table" - because that little blue table is in my photography sweet spot, haha. It has the PERFECT lighting, though in winter it lacks a bit, so I have a second spot on our side balcony which I'm even thinking of moving the SIL table to 😛

      I wish I didn't have to use my bed haha I need a hard surface. But my mom turned the kitchen table in to her desk so....there is never room to set anything up and that is the only other spot in the house that has okay lighting!

    I'm a major granola lover, over time my yogurt with granola has become granola with yogurt haha i'm obsessed! This looks great! Apple & Cinnamon really are a perfect combo!

    I like when granola has both nuts and fruits. I haven't tried making it yet, but its definitively on my list of things to try. I love pistachios and cranberries, or maybe cherries. As for the sweet spot, I have a couple depending on the time of day. Unfortunately, I'm always cooking my recipes at night which makes it impossible to get natural light. What camera and camera settings are you using? I'm new to photography, so I'm always curious.

      I always end up shooting around 4:30ish. I just have a Canon Rebel T3i and I just keep it on no flash. I need to work on manual but I am always in a rush and have no patience!
