We all need gentle things that can help us refresh and revitalize our lives when we get stuck in a slump or lose sight of our purpose. Here are 7 gentile things that will help you get the spark back into your life!
There are always seasons of our lives that we get stuck in a major slump. Days, weeks, months, it can feel so hard to regain that vitality we once had. Sure, sometimes we can pinpoint that thing or things that may have caused us to get stuck here, but most of the time, we seem to just fall right into it. We get stuck and everything seems so lackluster. We get bored with the monotony of our current situation or we may just be on hyperdrive, go-go-going, and end up missing out on anything that isn’t or top priority in our hectic minds.
Now that we’re about to head into a new season I’m feeling a major need to refresh and revitalize my life and I know I’m not the only one. However, I’m not looking for anything crazy, just something to add a little spark, a little forward motion and joy. Things that are gentle and calming, that don’t take much extra energy (that’s still lacking). Here is a list of the gentle things that I’m using to refresh and revitalize my life.
1 - Try out a new hobby you’ve always been curious about. What’s something that you’ve always wanted to try, but just never seemed to find the time to do? Dancing? Cooking? Sketching? Knitting? Painting? For me, I’ve ALWAYS wanted to try painting! So I did! I went out the other weekend and bought a nice starter set of acrylic paints, brushes, paint tray, a tabletop easel, and 2 canvases (which I always had at home). Guess what? It was fun! Of course there is so much room to grow and keep exploring in this new hobby, but I think I like it and now have something new to get excited about and spend some time on.
2 - Reconnect or go out and meet some new people. If there’s someone in your life that you’ve lost touch with just because “life” happens or you both got to busy, reach out and shoot them an email or message! Maybe they’ve been wanting to reconnect too, so why not be the initiator? If you want to expand your circle, look for local meet-ups of groups to check out and join. From local events, classes, co-working spaces, to my favorite, meetup.com, you are bound to find a new friend that can be a great “horizon expander” for you!
3 - Clean up your personal beauty routine. A stereotypical way to “refresh”, but buying a new lotion, shampoo, or cleanser can be a perfect and gentle little spark for some instant refresh. (I’ve told you all about my perfume hack here.) I’ve recently tried out POLYN products and am in love! Their facial cleanser is amazing and my new favorite. All their products are 100% plant-based, non-gmo, gluten-free, vegan, cruelty-free certified and with no synthetic additives or fillers. Literally refreshing products that leave you feeling revitalized!
4 - Unleash the magic of essential oils. So I finally succumbed to the “essential oil craze” and am kind of loving it! What’s more gentle than essential oils? I could breathe in my lavender oil all day and loving using it as a way to unwind in the evening. Find your favorite scents or blend them together for a potent targeted combo and let your diffuser do the work while you sit back and just take a few moments to yourself while reading a book, drinking so tea, or soaking in the tub!
5 - Actually start writing. It can be a daily journal or even just random short stories of fiction. I've always loved the idea of writing and it's been a thing I've done on and off my entire life. Of course I write a lot for school and this business, but it always feels so refreshing when I actually just write what I want, what I feel needs to "come out". Writing is 100% refreshing, revitalizing, and helps your hash out some clarity when you need to get things going again!
6 - Shake up your usual routine. Routines keep us organized, less stressed, and functioning, but sometimes we need to make a few tweaks every now and again. Now, be gentle with yourself here (remember the things we decide to use to help us refresh and revitalize should be easy on the mind!). Something like taking a different route to work or switching around your workout routine. Maybe starting your day with a savory breakfast instead of a sweet breakfast!
7 - Clean up the technology and social media. One of the most impactful ways I've found to revitalize my life when I'm feeling major "stuck and slump" in all areas is to clean out my social media. I'm not just talking about a weekend detox from the online world either. If an account, "friend", follow, blog, or website makes you feel bad, puts you in a negative mood, or just brings up "icky" feelings inside...delete, unfollow, unlike. The world will go on, it will be okay. It may feel "not so gentle" in the moment, but a few days, even hours later, you'll realize how refreshed you suddenly feel!
So tell me:
+ What are some easy and gentle ways you use to refresh and revitalize your life?

Hi, great tips and a few tweaks in life can make a big difference. I think I may try a savoury breakfast this morning as this normally a weekend treat. I've also got some new essential oils to try as little treat, Chloe

Hi Rebecca, Great post! It's easy for us to get "stuck in a rut." Trying new things and getting out of our "comfort zone" are a must! I love taking a new class - that energizes me. I also try to cook at least one new recipe each week. Thanks for sharing! Blessings, Janet

Rebecca, I especially like "Shake up your usual routine," something I've been thinking about a lot lately. That's my plan for spring!

This is a great list 🙂 I've been trying to do a couple of little things lately - I've been journaling to track my food/mood/sleep etc, engaging in more detailed beauty regimes (which has basically been basic stuff that I never do, like face masks), and I have been trying new hobbies! 2017 has been dubbed my 'year of self care'!
