From dipping to scooping, spreading to mixing in, hummus is one versatile food. This gluten-free and vegan savory pumpkin hummus is the perfect flavor for all you fall snacking, cooking, and tailgating!
I make and eat a lot of hummus, yet I slack at giving you hummus recipes! Have no fear, I have a good one for you today. This is my latest hummus recipe and I’ve been enjoying the huge batch I made the last 2 weeks. It’s simple Fall perfection that satisfies the savory pumpkin craving. If I had the choice between a sweet pumpkin dish and a savory one, I think I would go savory! I just love the creamy, rich, undertoned taste of pumpkin when highlighted in a savory recipe.
I don’t think people highlight or appreciate it’s wonderful savory qualities enough. Maybe that’s why I love it so much. The versatility from sweet to savory and everything in between. Just like hummus! Sweet, savory, whatever. I just love foods and ingredients that do that that flavor profile capability. It makes the possibilities endless and the ingredient or food timeless. So opening that can of pumpkin and using it to make this pumpkin pie snack bites as well as this hummus, all from one can, sounds pretty good to me.
This is also a really nifty time of year to start doling out the hummus recipes. Tons of gatherings, parties, and tailgating. ‘Tis the season for good healthy snacking! I mean, have you ever been to some type of get together where there was no dip or hummus? I think not. People like to mingle while snacking. Snacking on something crunchy. Mingling, snacking, and dipping or spreading! Lucky for you, those chips, pretzels, or raw veggies can do some of their own mingling in some seasonal pumpkin hummus! And, get this, it’s healthy, allergy-free, and fat-free! So dip, spread, and scoop away my snacking friends!

I love making my own hummus because I’m not a fan of Tahini- but I rarely venture away from a classic hummus recipe. I love the sound of yours and will definitely have to try it- what was your favorite way to eat it? I actually love to spread hummus on a sandwich!
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine says
What!! I could eat (and do) eat tahini by the spoonful, I just never add it to my own hummus 😛
That’s the only way I use hummus! For my lunch sammies!

I cannot choose between sweet and savory with pumpkin – it’s all so good. I basically just need to resign myself to being orange.
Great idea with the hummus! I’d dip some carrots in it just in case it wasn’t enough orange. 😉
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine says
Orange foods are kinda awesome…like orange means sweet or savory. Think sweet potatoes, pumpkin, carrots….it’s all good either way!
I’m with you there!!! Orange on orange!

I’m actually not sure I can decide between savoury or sweet pumpkin dishes. Sweet pumpkin recipes aren’t a thing in Trinidad so I gre up eating only savory pumpkin. But sweet pumpkin recipes definitely have their place 😀

Miss Polkadot says
Eating pumpkin all day, every day and adding it to everything? Oh yes! Okay, I’ll admit I don’t eat it ALL day but that’s just because the supply over here is limited [to a very few months] and I’m not a real fan of sweet pumpkin, either. We don’t grow up eating it this way over here and I’ll admit just the thought of pumpkin pie … no. Yes to savoury or undecided [read: plain steamed] when kabocha is involved. Pumpkin hummus combining two of my favourite foods – well, pumpkin and chickpeas, obviously – is right up my alley. I’ve actually been meaning to make it myself but was too lazy too prepare pumpkin puree first 😉 .
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine says
Hahahahaha! I loved your comment 😉
I think there is way more untapped potential when you keep it savory. People never think about it, but it can really make a dish spectacular, creamy, and keep you guessing!
Audrey @ Unconventional Baker says
Well, you know I’m a sweets kinda girl, but when it comes to pumpkin I love it both ways — probably because it makes my savory sweet haha 🙂
Well, this looks delicious, Rebecca. Never tried a pumpkin hummus yet, but gonna have to change that soon 😉
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine says
I’d say so 😉 We can never turn down anything with pumpkin!
Michele says
I’m happy with pumpkin sweet or savory – it’s so good all around 🙂

Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine says

Kathryn Grace says
Savory or sweet pumpkin? Now that’s a hard question to answer because there are so many ways to love pumpkin. Pumpkin pie, of course. Pumpkin scones, muffins, breads–both sweet and savory. But soups too. Your pumpkin hummus recipe is totally new to me. Have to give that a try. I’m thinking it might work just as well with butternut squash too. What do you think?
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine says
Well of course, but then it would be a different recipe. Butternut Squash hummus 😛
Liz says
This looks really yummy! I bought pumpkin hummus in the store yesterday.. it had added sugar (which I normally stay away from) but it was one of the last ingredients so I gave it a try.. definitely still too sweet for me! Totally trying this instead 🙂
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine says
This will be 100000x better 😉
lucie says

Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine says
Fingers are the best dipping device 😉
Sarah says
Say what? My girls and I love sweet potato hummus but I have never made pumpkin hummus!!! I would totally swap you a jar of my Pumpkin Spice Peanut Butter for this hummus! 😉

Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine says
Savory pumpkin is the best!! You get to add all those lovely fall herbs!
Bianca @ ElephantasticVegan says
As soon as I saw this Pumpkin Hummus on FB today, I loved it! What a wonderful idea to mix the pumpkin & chickpeas into a neat party dip! I haven’t had anything with pumpkin yet this season, whaat?! I know 😀 We don’t have pumpkin puree here (so mean!), so I’ve used pumpkin only in savory dishes yet. But after seeing so many great sweet pumpkin recipes on pinterest, I’m really motivated to try some pumpkin cookies or cake or muffins or something like that 🙂 My favorite party dip (besides hummus) is guacamole. I could eat that stuff all day long, especially when served with homemade crackers 🙂
Rebecca @ Strength and Sunshine says
Girl! Get you pumpkin-game going!!! I wish I could send you tons of cans of Libby’s! Hahaha!
I think we should make some avocado pumpkin hummus 😉
