These easy Air Fryer Sugar Snap Peas are a healthy and delicious side dish or snack! Air frying brings out their naturally sweet and savory flavor while making the outer pods crispy and the inner peas tender and creamy! Made with just 2 ingredients, raw snap peas, and seasoning, they're customizable and naturally gluten-free, vegan, and low-carb!
Sugar snap peas are one of the tastiest raw veggies (legumes) to eat, but why not give them the crispy air-frying treatment? Snap peas have that satisfying crisp and refreshing outer pod with sweet raw peas on the inside. Toss them in the air fryer to roast and you'll get a mouthwatering caramelized and tender result! Perfect for snacking, dipping, or as a quick side. Naturally healthy and delicious, even kids will love them!
Snap Peas vs Snow Peas
Sugar snap peas are a cross between snow peas and garden peas. Snow peas are flat with tiny pre-mature peas inside the pod and have a mild flavor, making them great for cooking and stir-fries (they're also known as Chinese pea pods). Sugar snaps on the other hand have a rounded crunchy pod with large mature peas inside. They have a much sweeter flavor and are ideal for eating raw but are absolutely delicious when cooked!

Are Sugar Snap Peas Healthy?
Sugar snap peas are a healthy and nutritious legume with about 42 calories, 3g protein, 0g fat, 7.5g carbs, 2.6g fiber, and 4g sugar per a 100g serving. They help promote healthy immune function, blood flow and circulation, gut health, blood sugar control, and vision health.
Ingredients You Need
- Raw Sugar Snap Peas: Fresh and straight from your own garden or bought at the store. I like to buy them from a local farmer's market so I can buy them in bulk, but you can also look for packaged snap peas that typically come "stringless" so you don't have to worry about removing any tough strings that hold the pods together.
- Seasonings: Keep it simple with some salt, pepper, onion, and garlic powder like I did or spice it up with your own choices! You can even more them plain since there is so much flavor in these sweet crispy pods!
Customize Your Seasoning
- Asian Flavors like sesame seeds, sesame oil, coconut aminos, teriyaki sauce, and ginger
- Sweet & Spicy with chipotle or chili powder, even a dash of hot sauce
- Curry Powder to make them fragrant with Indian flare
- Cheesy using nutritional yeast or a sprinkle of vegan parmesan
- Dried Herbs like dill, marjoram, or mint
- Thai Flavors with Thai basil, garlic, and chilis
- Citrusy flavors like lemon or lime zest bring delicious zing
How To Cook Sugar Snap Peas In The Air Fryer
- Rinse and dry your fresh raw sugar snap peas before tossing them in your seasoning mixture of choice and adding them to your air fryer basket.
- Set your air fryer to 400°F and air fry for 10 minutes. Give the basket a shake before air frying for an additional 8-10 minutes or until desired crispiness level.
How Long To Air Fry Snap Peas
With anything you cook in the air fryer, it depends on the size of your air fryer and how crispy you want something. The smaller the air fryer, the more batches you'll need to do to prevent overcrowding and steaming the peas instead of getting them crispy. To get a nice brown share on the pod, starting with 10 minutes works best before tossing them and doing an additional 8-10 minutes. I like mine extra crispy so I tend to leave them in longer (10-12 minutes).
How To Store Leftovers & Freeze
You can meal prep and store leftover air-fried snap peas in a closed container in the fridge for 5-7 days. You can also batch and freeze them by allowing them to come to room temperature before storing them in an airtight ziplock freezer bag for up to 6 months.
How To Make Leftovers Crispy Again
Leftover or frozen air fryer snap peas can be reheated and crisped again by tossing them back in your air fryer! Air fry leftovers at 350°F for 3-4 minutes. If you are air-frying them from frozen, add them directly to your air fryer and air fry at 375°F for 5-7 minutes, tossing halfway through.
What To Serve With Sugar Snap Peas
When served as a side dish, these snap peas pair perfectly with so many entrees but here are a few ideas to get you started! Cashew chicken, orange chicken or orange chickpeas, grilled chili lime chicken, harissa salmon, portobello mushroom steaks, and this vegan pad Thai!
Of course, they're delicious on their own, but you can also serve them with dips like balsamic red pepper hummus, garlic kale hummus, homemade ketchup, and maybe some vegan nacho cheese!
